In 2001, Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel were two of the most exciting new solo artists in Rap music. While Jada’ had been on wax since 1994 with the LOX, Sigel was becoming Jay Z’s most exciting protege on the Roc-A-Fella Records roster. They had even appeared together on 1998’s “Reservoir Dogs,” from Jay’s Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life LP and “The Hood” on the first Ruff Ryders compilation.

Three years later, things got really tense. In an interview, ‘Kiss—who was signed to Ruff Ryders/Interscope Records, stated that he felt Philadelphia, Pennsylvania MCs were biting his style. No one appeared to take umbrage with that opinion more than Sigel, who was then launching citywide crew State Property. On ‘Kiss’ “Put Ya Hands Up”instrumental, the Broad Street Bully swung at Jada’, with might. Jada’ would respond quickly, in a beef that grew to involve DJ Kay Slay and DJ Envy.

The beef-and-battling continued, through to Sigel’s mid-2000s departure from the R-O-C and label woes. The disses—which were primarily through mixtapes, radio and stage appearances—involved mentioning family members, questioning sexuality, and declaring death threats. On DJ Khaled’s debut, 2006’s Listennn…The Album, the pair made peace, symbolically, care of a song (“Problem”) recorded in separate studios, with verses later licensed to appear side-by-side.

In 2016, Jadakiss is a Roc-A-Fella Records artist—long after Jay left the label. Sigel, who last released This Time in 2012, is now regularly working with ‘Kiss. The pair appeared on French Montana’s “Have Mercy” single, as well as another Khaled appearance, “I Lied” on the #1 LP Major Key.

Speaking with XXL, Beans said that there is a complete new page coming in their history. “I got a record I just emailed to Jadakiss, just waiting for that to come back. I don’t want to say too much, but that’s going to be the introduction that me and him are going to do, Kiss To Mac,” said the artist who once mentored Freeway, Peedi Crakk, and Young Chris, among others.

In the same interview, Beans said he’s been in touch with Roc Nation, about his first collaboration with Jay Z in nearly 10 years. Sigel appeared on 2007’s “Ignorant shyt” from 2007’s American Gangster. Shortly thereafter, due to label frustrations at Def Jam, Beans dissed his former mentor—who also responded. The two have since appeared together publicly, following Sigel’s surviving a near-fatal 2014 drive-by shooting in New Jersey.

In the XXL interview, Beanie Sigel also discusses more Scarface collaborations, and updates fans on his health.

A Villa Straylight.
Who you think won the battle pimp?
This was all we talked about in the lunch room. I think that first solo effort went to Beans. That freestyle on the Throw ya hands up beat was too hard. But I think Kiss won the war. Those D-block freestyles were nails in Beans' coffin.
