It was....they were throwing subs back in forth in freestyles then when Kiss dropped that it was on and popping. I think also Kiss dissing Philly in the Source was what added fuel to the fire. When he made a statement that Philly stole his sound and alot of cats from philly got signed cause they had his style which he reference in the We Gon Make It with the line "I'm the reason (another shot at sigel) nikkas got deals the past few years, sound anything like Kiss then sign right here"

I think the real question is who really came out as the victors of this battle: The Chain Gang known as State Prop or The Mighty Mighty D-Block cause really after the two initial tracks from Sigel and Kiss the rest of the crews jumped in on sum Degeneration X vs Nation of Domination steez

Its funny you say Jay was scared,when truth is he knew Kiss was on some petty shyt tryna shine off his name,he threw the lil homie at Kiss and let Beans shine off him....Jay was about frying bigger fish,from the subliminals he was throwin at the actual STAR of Ruff Ryders,and the fact you had Beans spittin out lines like "Leave it up to Hov to X out Tommy Buns" you cant really think Beans just pulled that out his azz,it was part of the plan.

Also on the low it was a lil beef between RR and Roc during that time. Swizz touched on it a bit on one of those Vlad TV joints. Look at the breakdown besides Kiss Vs Beans you had Freeway Vs Cassidy and I know it was cats waiting to see if a X vs Jigga beef would pop after that line on Uh Huh "I only gave you the crown so I could shoot off your fukkin head." We all kno between 99-01 X and Jay was neck and neck for that Top spot in NY. But idk the streets was buzzin hard bout Kiss and remember everytime Kiss got on a joint Jay would come right back around and shut it down wit a remix (Best Of Me/Fiesta) and made you forget all about Kiss. Like he was blocking Kiss shine. He kinda view Kiss as a threat especially during that time. Styles spoke on it a bit on this freestyle with the line "Get off my man dikk and let him do his numbers":

That's why Jada was bein petty,Jay was a bigger star at the time and nationwide considered one of the best and hottest at the time....what is he supposed to do not get on a track cuz Jada was on it first even if he was asked? is it his fault his verses was all time classics that made Jadas a afterthought? That classic prime Jay arrogance just made alotta nikkas feel sum type of way,im sick of Nas and Kiss bein made out to be dudes Jay was jealous of and tried to ruin on sum bully shyt like they wasn't comin at Jay neck on the subliminal tip....Jadas competiveness just had him wanting that top spot in NY like every other nikka at the time coming for Jays head,he's no special case...I just love the way Sigel handled that nikka in bully like fashion like a Abobos from Double Dragon to let Kiss know,you aint ready for the boss lil nikka....Theres a special place in thugs mansion for Sigel where he finally makes the transition from the streets to the fame
