They have one of the worst RBs in the league, an okay O line, 1 (overrated) receiver in Pickens

They need work beyond a QB.

The coordinator is ass though
Say what you want about Najee but he has put up 1000 yards every year and is durable. Him and Jalen warren are an underrated combo.

Pickens put up 1000 yards with GARBAGE play. Steelers do desperately need more wideouts

We had Matt Canada. Anything is a upgrade over that

Would you want to be the team that traded away the QB whose comp is Patrick Mahomes?

What if he really is the next Patrick Mahomes? Now you have Justin Fields as your QB, who you probably wouldn't even extend anyway. No front office is making that sort of gamble, they would all get fired.

Atleast if Caleb turns out to be a bust, nobody will hold it against you.
Kurt Warner put it really well:

“When you have three years and don’t take out the doubt, I think you have to move on,” Warner said. “You can’t just go pay that guy $50 million in hopes that those glimpses you saw will turn into greatness. It may be unfortunate because some of those guys play too early — they are not ready — but their next contract will be determined by it.

If Fields doesn't win the starting spot over Russ, that's when it starts to get interesting over in Pittsburgh regarding what to do with Fields's contract.

As an Bengals fan. I don’t like this. I wish they traded him to the Vikings or something. They had the same Eagles offer the Steelers got for Pickett but turned it down. They took a worse offer to do right by Fields. Gotta salute Poles and Warren for looking out for the young black man. Putting in position to succeed. Now he can sit behind Russell Wilson learn the offense and take off the season after or if Russell play like trash he’ll take over sooner than later.

great for the steelers only have russ on a one year contract so you owe him nothing
Bruh and if he shows out he comes back next year on the same contract. Fields continues to learn behind him and ain’t trippin because he gets two years to sit and learn, yall don’t even understand how crazy this is.

Favre started and they had to get rid of him because Rodger’s was there. They drafted someone else and Rodger’s was like “fukk this I’m gone because I can still start”.

Wilson and Fields have both been registered as back up QB’s both them muthafukas hungry to show “yall got me fukked up” and if Wilson succeeds Justin ain’t mad because he already knows “this dude got three years max” but Wilson is also telling him “you know they brought me in to help you right, if I get injured it’s your team bruh”. Ain’t nobody mad, they all got shyt to prove

That nikka will never be pat, odds say we back here in 5 years

But from a business aspect like one guy said, it just makes sense to move on they never helped him, the killer part we the same organization minus a couple pieces moved on and added so… what’s going to be different

When have these player comps ever been correct?

Pat comps wasnt Pats comp if you get what I’m saying lol and most analysts thought the chiefs shouldn’t have drafted him
caleb Williams is more likely to be Derek Carr than Mahomes. People expectations are too high. They said the same about TLaw

Great move by the Steelers. They have a vet with Russ for cheap and young QB they can develop.
Exactly

Russ is on a 1 year deal and you never know what could happen it's football

QBs are currency you can never have enough.

Fields had nowhere to go and start right now.

He's with the Steelers now not garbage Bears

He's in a great spot

Unless fields is the starter by the end of the season, which is HIGHLY unlikely, then he's getting cut. No way they pickup that fifth year and pay a backup 25M.

Doing right by Fields is trading him within the division (Vikings).
Or Broncos or Raiders

Yup, it's on Fields right now to show out that Russ isn't the better option and take that starter role.

That's all it's coming down to. That's how the NFL works.

Tomlin's job/reputation is on the line this year so he's 100% going to make sure he's not going to put the wrong QB out there this year.

Tomlin won't sacrifice his career and give you the starting role all because you're younger or have a couple plays you've made if you can't distance yourself from Russ. There's zero room for entitlement in that situation.

Steelers also don't want a 5th year QB who still needed to sit behind someone 2 more years and didn't earn the spot. So at this point it really is up to Fields to work hard, ball out and earn it, there really is no more room for excuses.
