Best bet or what i do is to take a walk, smoke a cig, or listen to some other music and come back to it and you usually have fresh ears to go back in.

there's a lot of ways to do it, stuff like sincere said works...but there's also something that a lot of people don't do...just take a totally new approach to how you make a beat.

for instance (i dunno if you usually start with a certain "part" like i often do but), instead of making sections/loops, just choose 1 thing and go all the way with it...then build everything else from there.

start with your drums...forget making a 4/8 bar part you like...start with your intro, then verse/hook/whatever. then go from there. shyt, do a whole beat of just drums. then go back with a bass or whatever else you're immediately feeling, and play over top of the drums, do the entire track again. and just keep doing the same thing with other elements until it all feels right. think left-to-right instead of working in parts and trying to glue them together.

just an idea.

Thats a good idea too and Ive done that on occasion. Just go completley in the opposite direction of what you normally do. Like me, I normally always start with sounds/samples and build from there but if im in a rut ill start with drums or try to recreate some of my fav drum loops or patterns just to get an idea down and that'll spark something. Or, just start fukking with random sounds in your vsts and try to make something outta that. Like, alot of beats ive done now is just picking random sounds and saying, "okay ima try and make a melody or something outta this,". You'll be surprised at what you can come up with or just realizing damn I was sleeping on these sounds or this sample etc.

Whenever I feel myself starting to lose focus I just stop for a few days, then usually I'll just be randomly listening to something and get that oh shyt I gotta chop that feeling and get back into it.
I treat it like shift work, 4 days on 4 days off shyt.

Good idea bro....I'm going try to start off with a drum loop and build off that....I usually start off with a sample and build from that....

what helps for me is to just make a totally off-the-wall-type beat. just something you might never play for anyone. helps "clean the pipes."

yeah that works too. just going through the motions and actually finishing a whole beat can help you break through the wall, even if it's kind of wack.
