THAT'S exactly what I like to hear. How I'm gunna have my daughter feelingThe funny thing is my Dad never hit me.
But that fear. That fear that he would was so evident he didn't need to.

How many parents beat their children out of mere frustration from their own life and once the child screws up a bit, all that anger comes out..
and she grew up in Trinidad in a time where the TEACHERS could beat ya if you "screwed" up

I think the key to disciplining is letting your children understand that there will be consequences for their actions.
Unfortunately some parents(and that ain't just blacks) would rather just hit their kid
when their kid acts an ass.
The whole purpose of being a parent is to show you kids thy way to go and check them when they veer off that path. Sometimes that requires an ass-whoopin. Far more often than not it doesn't but this idea that physical punishment is never necessary is comically unrealistic.lol
Here come all the "I got beat and I turned out okay" fellas...
I bet none of those dudes in prison got hit, right?
They all had lame old time outs, right?
