I think the key to disciplining is letting your children understand that there will be consequences for their actions.

I'ma say this, a beating is usually never for discliplinary reasons as much as it is simply a parent just upset at what the child did. It's like putting a choke chain on a dog, except we are humans, we ain't that dense

If a parent gas to beat their kid, then they lost. If you can't use your words and wisdom to control a child, then you are a pretty shytty parent

Our taxes go to y'alls rugrats' schooling and their jailing if they aren't raised right. Those are our step children by default

This. And then on the flip side you have parents (a good number of black people) that would rather just let their kid do whatever they want and then turn around and be
when their kid acts an ass.I know people that received corporal punishment and are just fine and I know people that are in jail. Same with people who were never touched. It all comes down to your overall approach and what kind of example you are setting. If your kids watch you cuss and fight all day then should it really be surprising if they are fighting and cursing in school?
The whole purpose of being a parent is to show you kids thy way to go and check them when they veer off that path. Sometimes that requires an ass-whoopin. Far more often than not it doesn't but this idea that physical punishment is never necessary is comically unrealistic.

I feel worse when a parent curses out their kid and never opens up a dialogue about the punishment and consquences. Some of the things I overhear are just not healthy for children to be told to.
