There are so many interesting stories about this topic.

Name some examples and stories behind it, opinions on what never released versions would have sounded like, etc.

"We gonna make it" was supposed to be for Ras kass. Jay also passed on it.
"Kanye west - Last call" - Evidence found the sample and wanted to submit it for Black album

Rockwilder submitted some beats for Black album but Jay didn't pick any of them.
3 more Rockwilder examples:
"Mos Def, Nate, Pharoahe - Oh No" was supposed to be for Alkaholiks.
"Jay Z - Do it Again" was supposed to be for Beanie Sigel
"Nas Kelis - In Public" was supposed to be for Christina Aguilera.

Some just blaze exaples:
"Rock the mic" wasn't made for Free and Beans
"pump it up" by joe budden was supposed ot be part 2 to "rock the mic".
"oh boy" was made for memphis bleek
"freeway - flipside" was supposed to be for Beyonce (and I think jay-z)

There are a lot of tracks that was going to be used on detox, but ended up on other aftermath releases. More info on this is welcome! Ithink "busta rhymes - get you some" is one of them

Above examples are some I can mention off the top of my head, taken from random interviews / sources, but after a short google search, there are more to be found. Don't know if all of them are true, but there are some definitely interesting examples:

DMX - "Stop Being Greedy" (Jadakiss)

PK said he and Jada was in the studio, and X heard the beat and came in growling and asked who the beat was for. Jada said "maaaan..."

Fabolous - "Can't Deny It" (E-40)

Rick Rock said at the time everything he was making his was keeping for The Federation of offering it to 40 because he was his best customer. 40 had brought 8 Rick Rock beats for that particular album (Grit & Grind), just not that one.

I understand "Pump It Up" getting passed on, because this song was bubbling on the low at the time...

IMO both Jada and E-40 respectively wouldn't have come harder on these tracks.

"Pump it up" is something like that beat on steroids. It became a hit eventually.

"Big Pimpin" was originally for Timbaland & Magoo. Tim was playing some tracks for Jay Z and "Big Pimpin" was one of them. Tim heard Jay mumbling a flow over the beat. Impressed by what he heard, he gave the beat to Jay.

"Is That Your Chick" was originally for Puff, but Puff sat on it too long and Tim gave it to Jay.

Everything I Am is such a wild beat to pass on. One of those beats that can instantly set a mood.

'Can't tell me nothing' by Kanye was meant for Jeezy as the story goes - thus the adlibs. I feel like that conceit needed for that song... look. I feel like that song was in small part responsible for this out-of-control narcissist speeding to derailment that Kanye became. He was always kinda self-indulgent. But that song, bruhs. That song.

Not saying it's factual. But I'm saying I believe it. And... on this day celebrating a person who at worst didn't exist, and at best definitely wasn't born on the day celebrating his born-day... I feel like I get to make whatever personal belief assertions I damn well please.

"Can't Tell Me Nothin" was originally "I Get Money" off The Inspiration. I think sample clearances or something hindered the song from being on the album, so it was redone. I think T.I. was still on the song and Kanye had a verse, but "Can't Tell Me Nothin" was the beat. Toomp made a new beat and Kanye didn't send his verse in time.

Yeah I remember listening to that song a couple times thinking I missed Kanye on it. I was mad because he was listed as a feature and wasn’t on it. Makes sense now. Lol
