that info, put in a concise, simple way, isn't as easy to find as y'all think. And this is a site for hip hop discussion.

People discuss stuff that's way easier to google/not worth googling on The Coli all the time. I bring up something interesting that requires a tiny bit of expertise and it's 'head to google'.

Just say y'all too lazy and we'll call it a day.
I actually support this idea. Someone come through and crush it.

good choices :myman: i posted that Ventilation joint already but that's one of my faves off Covert Coup

dudes in here saying a beat with no snare sounds "incomplete" are missing the point, it takes some real creativity and rhythm to make a dope snare less instrumental, cats should listen to the links i posted in here cause a lot of these beats are gems
I think so too although I've made threads on here before saying I was sick of it. I think it's good in small doses if it's just a killer sample, but there was a period where it got ran into the dirt. Roc Marci and Ka did it over and over, and then Alchemist went through a little phase where I thought he ran it into the ground.

Now I hear it a lot. That Westside Gunn Roses Are Red EP only had 1 beat on it with snare drums. I think it's what happened with chipmunk soul on a smaller scale. Cats are just doing it to do it now.

For sure there are times where a melody is so good that it seems wrong to fukk with it, and some rappers have voices or flows that sound nice without a beat pushing it out of the way. But anytime people start jumping on a trend just to do it it can wear thin. In general I do like my hip-hop to have drums.

@Nigmund Freud , @DJ Dope-Needlz and others, can we get a list of all the key components of a hip hop beat and what they sound like.

e.g. snare (with link to what a snare sounds like), kick, hi-hat, etc

Alright, might be even fun to do.

1 Kick, 2 Snare, 3 Hi-Hat, 4 Open-Hat, 5 Together

1 Crash, 2 Clap, 3 Ride, 4 Shaker, 5 Together

1 Tambourine, 2 Bongo, 3 Conga, 4 Chimes, 5 Together

Hope you understand this...

How could I forget Bar-Barian from Sean Price and Alchemist. It's real quiet. Might as well not be there. Also X Factor by Actual Proof produced by Khrysis is one I bet most ppl haven't heard.
