Im paraphrasing and he goes into great detail to explain it better then me, but basically people are only able to function in America and more broadly the world, if black people are at the bottom of the proverbial totem pole, and the very concept of black people removing themselves from the bottom creates an existential crisis in non blacks, because they can't, understand a world where black people are doing better then them, and that white people aren't on top. That's why people try to assimilate into whiteness.

Basically as long as black people are on the bottom their position on the totem pole doesn't bother them.

White is simply a social status in this country. If they want you to be white, you can be white.

It's much, much deeper than 'social status', breh. Being 'Black' automatically relegates you to an 'underclass' in the West that was created as a direct result of slavery in America in the 17th Century. That's why African immigrants get offended when we refer to them as Black. Not only is it totally ignoring their own cultural/ethnic identities they created millenia ago, but they actually LOSE heirarchical status being lumped-in with us.​
