Certifications does not necessarily equal sales, they estimate shipped albums and those people at the RIAA offices work in funny ways.
It was written was certified gold, plat and double plat in the same day. Outkasts Idlewild was certified plat after like 2 weeks when it still had 500k up to plat.

And even if we go by their certification system, All eyez on me had sold 7/2 by december 96 and his second album 1.5 which is why I said 5 million.
6/2 in September.

Another point is just Macklemore, Life is Good numbers last year, doesn't mean that their albums were as big cause time doesn't end unless we talking awards.
Just a food for thought.

Harry B is a known Jay Z stan, yall gotta stop givin that user attention
What the fukk does that have to do with anything?
Motherfukkers stating the obvious some exaggeration ba ba back in 2000 Brady was drafted at 199, ehh so?
What happened after that idiots

I could be in here claiming all types of reckless shyt the same way disgusting ass Nas stans do like RD going gold as quick as IWW according to RIAA. Independently and all types of shameless shyt. Nas was not tier-1, maybe for 3 months or 4 week.

I might fukk with Jay, but I don't think you've ever seen me shytting on Nas. I shyt on anyone dikkriding nikkas shamelessly. I might say that he has a bad verse here on there just like I do with any rapper, at most. And I might say that he's been cursed with the worst stans in hiphops history. And for this thread, I've always held him above Big musically, that is.

Yeah - Nas became Tier One in the summer. The album dropped July 2, 1996.

nas wasnt as big as big and pac during that time
nas was BIG .
shyt, he had them both mad with one song ' the message'. if he was not as big as them, they would not have made as big a deal about that song. nas was a threat to their supremacy, no doubt!!!!
had pac calling him the ring leader.
number 1 record, that went 2 times platinum in a month.
nas/lauryn single was getting all types of play!!
lyrically he did shyt even those two couldn't do on this album. no hate -they definitely did other shyt better than nas - voice, charisma, flow, maybe more impactful. but nas was threatening!!!!!!!!

Nas is a great rapper and will always be but he was and never will be the superstar that big and PAC was at their peaks. Op said nas, big and PAC was running shyt but nas wasn't on that level of fame. If u add nas to that list u have 2 add a lot more nikkas because it was a lot of nikkas as big as nas at that time. And u don't have 2 try to explain it to me I was alive during that time. Seen it for myself

That's irrelevant, all I'm saying is that Nas was tier-2.
Jay-z was a dope rapper but not tremendously successful commercially. Labels didn't even wanna fukk with him until he moved gold with a classic and started selling out venues all over te Tru-state area.

So yes there was a time where Jay wasn't a commercial superstar just like for every single top rapper.. The problem is only that if Jay was Cease cause he didn't move millions with his first know album. What does that make Nas today? Bleek? No fukktards. Was Pac Spliff Star when Cube, Dre, Vanilla Ice, PE, Mc Hammer, Beastie Boys and Snoop were dominating the game? Or was he just on the rise?

I've got to edit my statement about the only difference between 2000s rap and 90s rap is that the music was better in the 90s. The fans couldn't possibly have been dumber in the 90s.
