Before the 2015 Hawks what was the go to example of the “fraud” team?

1994 Hawks were frauds too. Number 1 seed just to get smoked by the Pacers in round 2, and this was after barely getting by the 8th seeded Heat.

I can’t really think of an equivalence to the 2015 Hawks. They were so unique because they were essentially the same team from a year before that won 38 games only to pop up a year later with virtually the same core and won 60 games.

I see other examples mentioned in here like the late 90’s-early 00’s Heat. But they were consistently top of the conference for 5-6 years so that doesn’t scream “fraud” to me, did they underachieve a little? Yes. But frauds no. The 00’s Mavs were consistently one of the best teams in the league how were they frauds? Playoff failure does not make you a fraud.

So I don’t think there’s an equivalence to the 2015 Hawks.

1994 Hawks ruined their season by trading Nique mid-season

You brehs lie a lot on these forums. Absolutely untrue and the Cavs were still favored over the Hawks when they met.

Lived it in real time...the east was so bad, ppl thought Cle beating ATL was impressive...it wasn't

ATL had 4 all stars, won 60 games and still would've had trouble getting out of the first rd out west against the likes of the Dubs, Spurs, Clips, Blazers & Grizzlies

Definitely the Dirk Mavs till they finally got one.

Fraud teams don't make the finals or the WCF when it was as historically stacked as the 00s West. Beatin teams like Duncan Spurs, SSOL Suns, KG Wolves, or those deep loaded Blazers and Kings teams some of the best teams to not win a title. Bad example.... They ain't break through in the 00s but they wasn't no frauds.

The 2015 Hawks made the ECF too, if you believe they aren't one then fair. Mavs were consistently at the top and didn't break through, if fraud is not the word then I guess disappointing is.

Eh the West was loaded then can't really fault them for that.

Same reason I don't give KD that much hassle for not winning in OKC. Western Conference was a bloodbath from 2003-2016

No, you were wrong. No one saw that Hawks team as a juggernaut, in real time. You saying that is a lie. They were seen as comfortably behind Cleveland throughout the season.

The Warriors were seen as a juggernaut while the Hawks were a surprise story.

Top teams like Spurs and Lakers were still able to get their rings. KD and OKC would have probably got one too if he stayed. Mavs were right there but came short every time.

- 2001 (2nd round exit)
- 2002 (2nd round exit)
- 2003 (WCF exit)
- 2004 (1st round exit)
- 2005 (2nd round exit)
- 2006 (finals lost)
- 2007 (1st round exit)
- 2008 (1st round exit)
- 2009 ( 2nd round exit)
- 2010 (first round exit)

All these Mavs teams won 50+ games and had only 1 WCF and final appearance to show for which they lost both. Dirk and Mavs were criticized in real time for not getting through, that is why 2011 meant so much. Having that much regular season success and this being the result is definition of disappointment.

Imagine a modern day team that wins 50+ games for 10 year stretch and doesn't win one, they would get destroyed too.
