In this era, a good number of billionaires created software that a whole lot of other people used or paid for. Their only crime was initially being better than everyone else.

Not on the backs of poorly paid workers like Amazon or Wal-Mart.
Not from raping the land like most resource extraction companies.
Not by strong arming other industries/business customers to use your software or hardware like Microsoft or Intel.

Google was just a much better search engine than Yahoo, Lycos, Ask Jeeves, Infoseek, Altavista, etc.

They mostly made money by having businesses bid on ads that were next to their better search results.

The founders were billionaires with the IPO. A lot of the early folks there became millionaires.

There's nothing exploitative about that business model.

It's only after getting a taste did the corporate vampire fangs came out.
I'm not having Google billionaires not being exploitative. They must be somewhere. Either taking advantage of people's data illegally or something. Just not sure what.

Same. I just don't see how you can be a billionaire without exploiting somewhere. Millionaire sure. Billion? Nah.

My question is who did they exploit?

If that's a question in your mind, fair enough.

Havent watched yet,but I thought OP was quoting me originally. Either shes getting the same light codes or she has a coli account. Whether billionaire or prison inmate, two sides of the same assimilation coin.

We could argue about the things s black person could do with that billion. But if they were allowed to get a billion, its doubtful they are on that type of time:respect:

You think JK Rowling wrote every book herself? Someone printed the books shipped them, and sold them in stores. Workers whose labor created that billion dollar empire and were not paid equal value for their wages. Oprah's billions come from a media empire built producers, camera operators, writers, editors, all making a fraction while she owns the profit. Nobody EARNS a billion dollars alone. It requires extracting value from hundreds or thousands of people.

I would be surprised if she didn't write every Harry Potter book herself

Did JK exploit them? Are they living off of food stamps and medicare like Wal-Mart workers are, specifically because Wal-Mart under pays them?

What about CostCo? Good wages and good benefits. That guy is (James Sinegal) is a billionaire too.

With Oprah. Is her brand built on exploitation? Are people literally suffering to put her in a Beverly Hills Mansion?

Are these people not being paid fair wages?

What if these women were "only" worth 100M? 10M? 1M?...

This is the problem with the "there should be no billionaires" analysis.

There's a difference between Hailey Bieber putting together a make up line and selling it for a billi, versus Exxon Mobile, Nestle, or Dole.

Your camp has to get serious about how to present a good argument, because "no billionaires" is not it.

JK Rowling exploited people too. She didn’t build a billion-dollar empire by herself. Workers printed, shipped, and sold those books. They got paid fractions while she got ownership and profit. People did labor and the owner kept most of the value. Who benefits most from the work? It does not matter if you on food stamps. You can pay good wages and still make billions off what other people built. That’s literally how billionaires exist.

Costco pays better than Walmart but the founder is still a billionaire because thousands of workers created more value than they were paid for. The same goes for Oprah. Her whole media empire runs on the work of producers, editors, and camera crews. She owns Harpo media productions and Oprah Winfrey Network, her staff doesnt. Who cares if a billionaire is nice to you. Not one person can create a billion dollars worth of value by themselves. That money always comes from other people’s labor being undervalued and extracted.

:mjlol: She should have ownership and profit. A printer being entitled to the profits of an author is like a paint maker being entitled to the profit of an artist.

Breh, I was gonna respond to her seriously but you summed it up. I guess the water boy got exploited because he’s not making as much as the Quarter Back. :mjlol:

Some people have a very warped definition of “exploited”.
