How did you get started in investing, and how old were you? What did you look to invest in?

I don't know where to start, other than my 401k. I hear and read you guys talk about investments, but not how you get into investing from scratch with no financial literacy. I've self read articles but its foreign to me, good reads but I can't comprehend it. No one in my family or around me is financially literate...

I want to put some money in investments but I need guidance on how to begin that path, what to look for, etc...

So if you're already doing your 401(k) then you're already ahead of the game. If you'd like, you can PM me and I can take a look at the funds you've invested in to make sure you're allocated to the appropriate asset classes for your age and risk tolerance, but assuming you're young you basically want this:

Exposure to the S&P 500 (VIIIX for example).
Exposure to mid and small caps (VEMPX).
Exposure to some Internationals (VTPSX).
And probably some small amount of bond exposure (I kinda don't fukk with bonds much but that's another story).

Buy $SPY. Open an account at Robinhood, SoFi, Fidelity, M1 Finance or any brokerage. Auto deposit from your checking a set amount when you get paid. Even if it's just $50-$100. Don't look at the amount in this brokerage account just leave it on auto.

Dollar cost averaging into an S&P500 index fund is the best strategy especially for someone that doesn't know what they're doing.

Another option is $SCHD or $FZROX. Auto reinvent and dividends or distributions.
