not really...office politics gets real. may be different given the environment op is working in though but thats good advice. theres an electronic trail for everything i do,nothing is just verbal

It sucks, you have to walk a fine line between being standoffish and being cool but not so cool they think you are a pet negro.
These dudes I work with always trying to lowkey call em a nerd or corny cause I dont want to go hang out with their redneck asses and drink beer and hard liqour and get 3hrs of sleep every night. We have 0 in common we dont ever have the same pace of conversation.
Convo = Hunting Fishing, pickup trucks, fukk obama, fukk muslims, hoorah marines, homo erotic jokes, nascar, spit some chewing tobacco, what we drinking tonite, cop stories from their familiy members, blah blah blah. I give 0 fukks about any of that shyt.

Shut the fukk up about politics. For some reason white folks are ULTRA sensitive and protective about their politic beliefs like it actually fukking means something.
Don't be the Sammy Davis Jr. of the office. If somebody is making some racial jokes and they're like, "aw come on man, its just a joke.", dead that shyt with the quickness. You're there for a paycheck, not to be the office c00n.
On your lunch break? Leave the workplace.
If anything is happening that you don't agree with, write shyt down. Names, dates, times, everything. Cover your ass.
And one more thing:
HR IS NOT YOUR FRIEND.
Human Resources is there to protect the company, not you.

Thats three strikes there. Being quiet and too yourself in a general setting may work, but when you are around all white people you may be criticized for not being "social" and a "team-player". There are alot of middle/upperclass white people who are down to earth but especially in a upscale setting, you are bound to come in contact with some who have a chip on their shoulder about how Obama or "thugs" are ruining their lives, and won't hesitate to take it out on you.I wanted to get into upscale dining but I didn't want to be the token black person, and with me having dreads would low-key shut me out of Front of House positions at most places (where the real money is).
Best of luck but don't hesitate to jump ship if things look sour when you first start.

It is not that bad, people come in here with a defeatist attitude. Work will be fine just remember you are expendable and thus act accordingly. I do remember a guy I worked with with had cornrows and this older white lady said he looked like ludacris. He looked nothing like luda. So out of touch white people will reference or compare you to the little bit of AA culture they been exposed to.
