So few black people in STEM...starter stem classes bio, chem, calc 1 sure but when u get into more complex courses it's like dots on white paper

I had to make friends/network with everyone to really Excel because u realize u can't do it all on your own. Breakdown like this

Whites: Very tight/exclusive if legacy aka parents or family member already work in the industry so there's a job waiting, getting internship is much easy for em. Usually got the hook up or was exposed to studies early on. But will act as though they have no advantage.

Asians: Super connected. They know people who already took the course and will give share/share game by any means necessary. FOBs were rampant with the cheating. Was in a team: one took pics of lecture and had fam overseas to send old exams and notes, another recorded and shared real-time notes on Google drive. I knew the TA's and downloaded all the textbooks needed and shared. Another did all the legwork like hw, scanning texts, professor meetups etc. It was beautiful.

Indians: Very hardworking, humble, will help if need be. Usually willing to do all nighters. Very little social life if any.

Only thing that pained was when the few blacks around would act exclusive with their stuff like oh I don't want it to look like our hw is plagiarised or try to act aloof. Then when it gets real, it's oh hey Spectre u gonna study for that exam later?

I'm like we have so much to learn

What do we have to learn?

Those were a few people, they dont represent the majority of black undergrads. Dont lower our value because of a few leeches and crabs, while propping up every other race

Get used to it
Last time I had more than two black people in a stem class was calc 1 freshman year
I was the only black dude in a couple college courses , it definitely wasn’t stem levels or even advanced

The chicks(especially black women)use to be lookin at me like  tho I had my pick with any of them. Brothas don’t go to school like that :francis:
Yeah but once you get past calc 2 the women in stem classes are all fried anyway

I'm not. Our value is underestimated. I'm saying in some UPPER stem disciplines, it's surprising that there's still a few blacks who think only of themselves and only group think when it's essential. Obviously not all blacks but I should be able to see any of my own in a course and feel we got this. There's always a few that make me feel like I'm proving to them what I can bring. It's rarely like that with the others.

There was a female troll poster on SOHH back in the day, "Moonite Girl" i think it was. she said something like "nikkas reach their peak in highschool and the majority are useless afterwards...:"

she might have been partially right :ld:

depending on the course or program, it was usually me and like 4 other black guys back in the days of uni

Us black people are behind the curve all races cheat. You are not in college to learn except for a few core classes

shyt, I was too sometimes but my graduating group was like 6 of us or so if I remember correctly(fall/spring). A lot of black kids aren't there not because they aren't capable but because they lack exposure, which is unfortunate. My grad school(one of the best in the nation) was majority Asian, it was all online. lol, I quit once I realize for the next 5 years my weekend was going to spend doing school work for a subject that I didn't truly enjoy and I had already reached the salary most of them get out of grad school. Part of me felt bad because I felt I was misrepresenting my race :mjlol: but they have accepted more black people since then from what I see onlinkedin so it's cool.

Houston to LA like I'm Robert Horry.
We gotta get our people more involved with STEM. I realize it's not for everyone, but most things can be learned with practice. Gotta stop deterring our kids in primary school from advanced math and science because it's "hard" unlike their other subjects. Asians and Indians aren't naturally predisposed to be being better at these things they are just pushed harder.

I went to a very diverse college in Houston and generally the only other black students I saw in my advanced science and math classes were first/second gen Africans(nothing wrong with that just noting)

However we were full to the brim in Comm101 :francis:
