Being Weird and Black Doesn’t Mean You’re Interested in Being White

Ehh, I understand being teased for liking certain things as a kid in middle/high school, especially if you grew up in the 80s/90s. Thing is, once you hit college age it’s generally considered normal to be into nerdy stuff and those “lunch table” cliques start to dissipate. As long as you weren’t actually weird or otherwise had awful social skills, didn’t shower, etc. you could mingle with people who had different hobbies.

It seems weird that people hold grudges gr when they were kids, especially as full grown adults where they’re likely more successful than the “jocks” that made fun of them at this point lol. It’s even weirder in 2019 where being black and nerdy is extremely mainstream.

It's cool to be a black nerd, now.

But you take a kid who grows up being teased because of what he's into.

He goes off to college, where people are accepting of him and the people telling him that they will accept him for who he is, are not black.

That's literally all he's wanted from black people his entire live but couldn't get it.

He had to leave his neighborhood and talk to folks who didn't look like him to finally be accepted.

It's only natural that that would warp someone's perception.

That myopic view of black people is something he learned,unfortunately, from other black people.

This whole perception of black nerds= white acceptance is bullshyt when we as black people are not a monolith. Yup its the funny dicotomy of being black. Most people from the hood are chill unique and are into other shyt and generally dont give a fukk

It be black people not from those enviroments who feel like they have to live up to a perceived stereotype pushed thru the media

Some of the most gangsta nikkas I know be into different shyt like karate and anime. I know hoodboogers who are obsessed with cartoon shows like Avatar the last airbender and shyt

I don't think we ready to have a conversation about how these perpetual victim black nerds can also be some of the most viciously alienating, insulting people in our community. They will literally weaponize white stereotypes of blacks against people in their own race in a lot of cases.

Not all, but many have a huge chip on their shoulders and are quick to accuse others of being ghetto or thugs and are guard dogs for nerd elitism.

Meanwhile the world they want to be exclusive to make themselves feel special has been easily accessible to mainstream culture for decades now. Nikka we all watched Toonami growing up.

On the other hand...there are some blacks who do still believe that if u not chugging mad dog 20/20 and killing somebody over a Spades game, you trying to be white...

However in between these two extremes are millions of blacks who are just normal people with many different characteristics. Who like hip hop and rock...who are from the hood and spend their free time drawing anime characters.

I was teased for being into computers and shyt but I never saw myself as not being accepted by African-Americans...I just saw myself not being accepted by “hood minded nikkas”. I don’t know the intricacies of the people in the OP but I think if you’re getting clowned by African Americans and run into the arms of White America you will start to take your bad experiences as a child and falsely find commonality in it with their anti-Blackness.

So the White people you’re around start downing African-Americans and you start co-signing it because you feel ostracized by that same community. The organically you start straying further and further away from Malcolm X and firmly into the hands of Seinfeld, Friends, Dawson’s Creek, All Lives Matter and then you REALLY feel ostracized when you come back around African-Americans because you don’t relate to them.
