Ben Simmons admitted he didn’t attend classes at LSU. Why should he?

he still shouldve went to class. he could have had a serious injury or came up with bloodclots like chris bosh or something. maybe im wrong but it also kind of speaks to the work ethic of the kid.
Nah wrong 100%

Chris Bosh terrible example. If I do great at my job it'd take me like 40 years to make what he does before the all star break. Plus what good does going to college classes then dropping out after a year do you? Dude is a b-ball player.

All this "I came here to play basketball/football" is all fun and games, but it's horribly short-sighted. It's their lives though :yeshrug:

What I want to know is how many of these "fukk school" brehs wound up bankrupt 5-10 after retiring having made millions :jbhmm:
Here's one example of how your thought process is flawed. Look at LeBron. He's created generational money and careers for generations of his day ones, and their people and their people and so on.

You're wrong here.

college athletics is a job in itself. No one really feels like studying after all the work it takes to be a D1 athlete. Weightlifting, running, practice and then class. All my friends played Football in college. In some ways it's downright miserable and not something that average college student can relate to. It's the point where most colleges have classes specifically designed for athletes to take and get good grades with very little work.
Pretty much. And it's not like they're even learning anything. They're majors usually are criminology, psychology, sociology, communications,

they should allow cats to go straight out of high school or do a 2/3 year minimum in college.

That's one thing baseball gets right.

And if you're a top HS prospect you're getting at least 100k signing bonus to eat off of. Play your cards right and only spend 2-3 years in the minors.

that's not much, it's a fully paid for car/truck and a years salary.... Minor league players don't really make shyt.... you could make more at McDonalds, no joke.

You say my thinking is flawed, yet you've gone and listed the exception of all exceptions :francis: It can be done, it doesn't mean these brehs ain't wasting once in a lifetime opportunities- I'm like they're already in college. At least learn some shyt while you're there!:skip: "Man, that free education has made my life so much worse" is something nobody has said.

My main issue is that the NBA quality degrades when roster spots and "developmental" time are taken up by young players who aren't ready yet rather than vets who make the team better. I remember the Blazers drafting Jermaine O'Neal out of high school and just sitting on him for three years...there was literally no point to that except that they knew he'd eventually be good.

But he's right about the charade of 1-and-done college ball.

I think they need to improve the D-league until it's more at the level of baseball's minor leagues. Why is this so hard, when D-league basketball is far more entertaining than a minor league game? Then force players to stay in college for 3 years like in baseball and football. If you don't want to go to college, work in the D-league until you're actually better than the vets you would be taking minutes from.

:what:
The once in a lifetime opportunity, is playing in the NBA.....not going to college.

The NBA isn't gonna send the top picks to the D-League to work on their fundamentals and acclimate them to professional life for 2-3 years before they see a NBA regular season game.

That's a terrible, poison pill rule in NBA terms. If you go to school and you dominate year one or two you can't go pro and risk injury. Players develop at different rates but a rule like that doesn't take that into consideration.

Baseball has a MLB farm system as well as there being independent leagues. NBA and NFL should have a little bit of a farm system for their own sake, but their systems(especially the NFL) is about maximizing profit at the NFL level rather than trying to create that revenue through the highest level of play. I'm sure the NCAA is somewhat in cahoots with this and worry about college basketball and football falling to the level of college baseball. I really think its an overprotective overreaction, and they are missing something that might make their product better because of the cohesion. NBA and NFL must form a farm system though or at least there must be a better system of kids being able to go back if they aren't picked. I think if the NCAA would simply allow kids to not have to permanently declare before the draft this wouldn't be an issue anyway.

He doesn't have to go to class because he has a talent and physical gift to have a very realisitc NBA career.

People like that don't have to do shyt like everyone else, deal with it.

All this "he should go to class" BS comes from jealousy, honestly.

You see how your first reaction is: but but he could get injured! That's because you're kind of hoping he does get injured. And so what if he does, he'll have surgery, rehab, and still probably have a great NBA career, while you work a 9-5. Deal with it.
