I don't think he's broke,

But if you plan your life around receiving $30m a year and that money doesn't come in, things can get ugly quick. :francis:

Yeah it seems like he's been living a $30M/yr lifestyle since signing that max two years ago, but he's only actually gotten 1 full year of the max. He's earned $57M in total NBA salary and $20M from Nike. Maybe another $10-12M in miscellaneous endorsements. $80M total, probably $40-50M after taxes and agent. When you're buying $20M houses and $2M cars, money goes fast.

Ben Simmons quietly buys a Hidden Hills farmhouse for $17.5 million

Sixers star Ben Simmons plays basketball in Philadelphia, but he recently picked up a West Coast outpost, quietly dropping $17.5 million on a brand-new farmhouse in Hidden Hills, The Times has confirmed. The deal closed off market.

The Australian point guard joins a crop of NBA stars who’ve flocked to the gated community outside L.A. including Paul George, Tyson Chandler and Dwyane Wade, who paid $17.9 million for a 17,000-square-foot mansion in Hidden Hills last year.

Simmons’ place clocks in at 12,000 square feet and joins the trend of all-black farmhouses with a dramatic exterior of charcoal-colored brick along with glass and rustic wood. Tucked at the end of a cul-de-sac, the 1.5-acre grounds include two motor courts and a backyard with a swimming pool, spa, wood deck, patio and cabana — as well as a similarly styled guesthouse that tacks on a pool of its own.

The living spaces are about as modern as a farmhouse can get with an all-black foyer, dining area with metal chandeliers and expansive great room anchored by a floating gold fireplace. Floating stairs wrap around a bonsai tree, ascending to the top level complete with a catwalk.

One of seven bedrooms, the primary suite overlooks the entertainer’s backyard through a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass. Balconies hang off both sides of the home.

Simmons, 24, spent a year at LSU before being drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016. He won NBA Rookie of the Year in 2018 and was named an all-star in the three seasons since.

Josh and Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman held the listing. Breana Moran of Keller Williams Realty and Stephen Sweeney of SGS Estates represented Simmons.

17. 5 million for a one and a half acre lot? :picard: I thought when they said farm house it'd have a lot of land to be cultivated. Personally I'd rather have a lot of land like Kanye or will Smith

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
Rich Paul is a trash agent so I hope no one is surprised by this. I doubt any agent who knew what they would doing would tell their client to demand a trade then tank their trade value (Which was already pretty low) by doing dumb immature shyt like fake injuries and when that didn’t work then use the mental health card like that would be a good strategy. Now no one wants to deal with that kind of headache and the 76ers already made it clear they ain’t trading dude unless they get what they want it return. Rich and Ben lost. Time for them to just accept it.

For as much as I think Morey is overrated, I don’t think many GMs in the league would do what he did

If he was in the NFL I'd believe it. But NBA? Nah. Yes brehs go broke all the time, and they live check to check...but his contract/salary should mean he's good. Not to mention being able to live off credit, which a lot of ball players do.

Do I believe he's living beyond his means and perhaps was trying too hard to keep up with the Jenner chick, who has way more money than he does? Sure. But it's way too early for me to believe he's broke. I think this is simply someone - the team, local reporters, etc - throwing shyt out in response to the shyt Simmons' camp throws out. Like to neutralize the madness.
How many times have we heard this

i don't think he's broke, but there is a reason the owners always win in labor negotiations. these dudes can't last 6 months without a paycheck.

this... also I doubt he’s broke but people need to realize folks with new money tend to live the way folks do working average paying jobs... check to check... they can just afford to spend more on the frivolous shyt... won’t get the BMW but will get the Lambo, vacation a bit more, more purchases a LV/Gucci etc... it can add up if u ain’t used to it

Meh, a lot of land = a lot of work

I'd rather have less land and own some businesses instead of trying to maintain a giant ranch or bring people in to maintain it. Less ROI and more stressful than a smaller lot
