Oddly enough in the NFL I think teams rather draft a QB than sign one to a free agency deal I highly doubt Dalton would get that much on the open market....so why outbid ourselves?
Contract isn't signed yet. This could be more fluff. I don't think Dalton and his agent would sign a Kaep like deal though honestly. Dude thinks very highly of his ability. Which is good for us if he's willing to make that bet. We've been saving money every year for this fukking moment. If he proves it and goes out and performs in the playoffs(lol), then he'll get that big payday. ITS WHAT WEVE BEEN SAVING FOR. But like u said, ain't no reason to do this shyt right now with a year on the contract left.

and kaep contract, while very team-friendly, only prevents the qb from bombing completely or getting severely injured.

because chance are if kaep doesnt progress and just is 'good enough', hes 99% likely to not get cut and get his 18-20m
This is not true. The way this contract is built if he is not playing like a top 5 qb they WILL cut him before the larger base salaries kick in. There is no penalty against them for cutting him and a with a relatively small signing bonus there would be VERY little dead money resulting from it

I mean, there are QB contracts, and then there is the Matt Stafford contract.

He's gonna have a cap number of over $22 MILLION in 2016 & 2017.....

But wait...

Then their is Flacco, who will have a fukking cap hit of $31 MILLION in 2017, LMAO!

So Andy Dalton is consistently able to bring the Bengals to the playoffs for the three years he has been with them. I would say they want to keep him and build the future of the Bengals around him. If they lose him, who are they going to pick up? Maybe someone who is not as consistent, or old, or a so-so second string QB on the free agency market. They don't want that scenario. They don't want to go back into under .500 seasons again.

I don't think you give Dalton the world...but I don't understand the folk here talking about giving up on him. Dude been in the league 3 years. He's played well enough to get to the playoffs each season. He has sucked in the playoffs. Yes. Instead of tossing him to the bushes and starting over froms cratch, why not give him a deal and try to build off of what he's done thus far. There are a lot of "greats" who were ass to in the playoffs to start their careers.
