Benny and Conway need to stop thinking they’re bigger than the program and just let Gunn curate their projects
The crazy thing is though is west never really curated their stuff. Not Benny at least. Maybe West curated Reject 2 for Conway, but not much else. West didn’t do nearly as much of this for them as people think. But still, they’re older stuff was unquestionably put together better than their newer stuff

A lot of recent stuff by Benny and Conway is badddd.

So you are saying that back in 2015 when Benny was making trap muzik and under TRUST with 38 Spesh, his career going nowhere, suddently developped interest in modern boom bap beats just in time when WSG and Conway are having traction in the underground?I did follow their careers early Butcher On Steroids(2017) and Tana Talk 3(2018)was curated by west, you can hear it in the sound. He even said in some interview that WSG helped in a lot for TT3 in its direction. It was recorder a year before its release. Obviously in later releases, his sound diverges from WSG. But saying WSG never currated any of his stuff doesn’t hold under scrutiny.

Maybe West just being around helped them be more inspired or maybe he was like "nah this beat is ass find a new one" idk but Conway been invisible for a full calendar year, and his last 2 projects were trash.

Benny has had some decent songs here n there but overall his projects been mid to trash too

My review:

$ & Power - best song on here, even with that verse from whatever broad that was. Beat was dope, and it's the type of beats I expect from a Griselda project
Toxic was aight, Styles sounds different and had some throwaway bars
B$F was solid, beat was solid, rhymes were aight
I am the Program was solid
Song w/ Boldy was boring, beat is forgettable, rhymes were solid
Sign Language is mid with a corny hook, beat is solid

Project is nothing special. Benny needs to get with Daringer and Alc, no fukking hitboy, harry fraud for the most part can fukk off too. Boodeini, Sandu, Danny can each do a beat. Rinse & repeat. Don't need to stray far away from the coop.

Another example of Hov fanfic ruining modern rap shyt. Just like with people "not writing rhymes," the obsession with becoming business men or starting labels has hurt rap. Doing something just because another man did it is wack. If it doesn't fit you or you don't have a reason to do it...don't do it lol.

Virtually everything Benny has done since Tana Talk 3 has been the wrong move IMO....

True. I think they want to find other ways to get paid too.

There's a thing where just being an MC doesn't seem to be good enough for rappers, anymore. But a lot of these dudes are jumping the gun and making these moves before they really solidify themselves on the artist side. So it doesn't make sense. Benny doesn't have enough success for other MC's to think signing to him is gonna launch them into some kinda stardom. He's barely off the ground himself.

They should have kept the momentum going after the group album on Shady. I mean they still have a big fanbase now, but following that up with another group album or 2 seems like a better way for the name and movement to reach its full potential.

Benny & Conway are both trying to have their own crew, but to some degree, theres not enough success to go around in their particular space. WSG basically has all the best hardcore rappers signed to him atm. Trying to put on all these new rappers at once dilutes the brand. Flipmode Squad were actually (mostly) talented but in the end there still weren't enough fans to justify their existence, they were done by 2002, and none of them had any success outside of Busta. Except Roc Marc, but he was smart enough to know it wasn't going anywhere.

Its worse in this case because its like if every member of Flipmode had proteges.

West said that he would help them navigate their projects and give them advice, but that he would want them to take his "formula" and create their own vibe from that. I might be biased, but I like what Machine did on SFK. That was a dope project, to me, that had a few misses on it.

But he said the three of them don’t sit around and create in person anymore, like they used to. So they're all just kinda doing their own thing now, to build their own labels and artists.

The difference between Machine and Benny, is that Jae and Love are legit MC's. Benny's crew is trash, lol.

I f*ck with what Drumwork is doing. It's an underground label, but the artists are actually dope.

Flipmode was wack because Busta was trying to have underlings. The minute Lord Have Mercy caught some buzz, he started being jealous of people saying dude was better and killed his project on Elektra. Busta didn't want any of them to really step out on their own. Rah Digga was already a name by the time her project dropped, but she said Busta wasn't really backing her either. Dude's a weirdo.

For sure Conways crew has some talent. 7xve is fire and most of them are no slouch.

As far as Flipmode, yeah Busta probably didn't do what he could have done, but all these rap crews pretty much follow a similar pattern. They get 1 group project out (2 if they're lucky) and maybe 1 member becomes successful on their own. Its hard to outshine the main guy in those situations, maybe only example is Pun.

I knew Benny has BSF and Westside Gunn has a successful wrestling company - 4th rope, I didn't know Conway had a label or artists.

I can only name Griselda artists, cause I'm a fan.
