Yeah agreed, it does seem a little out of character for him. Every interview I've seen he seems like a cool down to earth dude. But the music he makes is hard street shyt and his image is tied to that. The thing about Gibbs' lame level is that he's constantly trying to impress the people who really did that shyt. And the more he pretends, the more security he has to hire, and the more he gets extorted, and the more danger he's in. And it's certainly not a sustainable lifestyle for a grown ass man who has small children.
