How so? Like someone may pick Stevie wonder over Michael because Stevie wrote more of his music and played instruments, while many of us don’t believe writing/instruments matter for a singer.

Someone else my value rhyme scheme over flow/delivery, how do you start ranking greatness when you can’t even rank criteria on which to grade people? And then how do you get to an agreed upon grade for each criteria?

It’s a baseless exercise
Check the first post bruh. I think it’d be pretty easy to get a consensus on what the categories should be. Impact/Technical skills/Influence/Critical Acclaim/Sales/Lyricism/Tenure/Rockin crowds/Etc… for starters…who doesn’t agree that those should be the focal categories? Determining which categories should count more or less would be interesting lol.

It wouldn’t be completely objective but much better than what we do now when making these lists. Like…in what objective way is Kendrick better than Nas? How is Missy better than Lupe Fiasco at rap???? Like you gotta show me something to support that man

And there will never be agreement on it. I’ve had this conversation plenty of times. How do you come to consensus on what matters more - overall content of a song? flow? Rhymes/Multis? Punchlines? Does technical skill matter more than the ability to make a good song? How do you decide how much longevity counts? Critical/cultural acclaim? Cuz just ranking technical skills, well it’ll be a list of mixtape and battle rappers…

How do you come to consensus on the grade? Even taking an average of the grades, people are gonna be mad at who’s grading. Let Rolling Stone’s “culture council” be the graders and see how far this new “objective” grading goes.

An “objective” list gets torn to shreds too

You can at least back them claims up with actual stats and rings and shyt tho
Depends on who's listening, though.

Russell got all the rings, but most don't even put him in the top 3-5.

Then there are things like the Robert Horry factor.

Exactly. And the fact that these lists are carried almost as Law by the people is crazy
But they aren't carried by law. Any time these lists are released they are hotly debated and roundly dismissed(and then forgotten about until next time).
be like 15 years late
after doing the opposite
and ruining your business that would be worth like 500 mill right now
Right. Benzino and many others spent years ranking and filing albums and rappers but now all of sudden he wants it to be some "let's just enjoy the art" bs.

But the same people who say there shouldn't be lists, get hella mad when they fav is ranked lower than some other nikka. :sas1:

Either it matters or it doesn't.
