Fresno, CA.
Berlin has banned car service Uber, which allows users to summon a ride on their smartphone, for not offering drivers and vehicles licensed to carry passengers, or full insurance cover, the German capital said. The ban takes immediate effect and Uber risks fines of up to 25,000 euros each time it violates the city's Public Transport Act, Berlin authorities said in a statement. Uber said on Thursday it would appeal against the decision, accusing Berlin of denying its people choice and mobility. "As a new entrant we are bringing much-needed competition to a market that hasn't changed in years. Competition is good for everyone and it raises the bar and ultimately it's the consumer who wins," said Fabien Nestmann, German General Manager at Uber.

i hope uber/lyft takes these transportation companies out of the business and makes them extinct. Uber is better in every single way
Tbh it's really going to depend on who's able to line these politicians pockets the best. The problem with uber is there's alot of liability that they're currently being able to "escape" for lack of a better term. What happens if an uber driver seriously injures or kills a passenger, what if that driver was under some influence? What about if a driver kidnaps a victim or robs someone? What happens when passengers start robbing drivers?

The same questions could be asked of Taxis no? and Uber drivers don't accept cash.

Taxi companies can't compete in the open market so they are trying to use local municipalities to fight Uber. They think people are using Uber because its cheaper. :pachaha:

People use Uber because it offers a better experience. It's convenient, the cars are cleaner and the drivers are courteous and offer better customer service. Compare that to FOB a$$holes who could care less about customer service.

I'm all for Uber and I think this will be an interesting thing to workout. But as far as the same questions being asked about taxis, Im pretty sure the taxis have insurance policies that cover that. But I mainly said that to address how the media would shape the public's perception on Uber if/when those things happen.

You're absolutely right about the better experience. Most of my dealings with taxis have been a pretty bad one. Alot of them only take cash, their expensive as fukk and I've had drivers w/o a working GPS :what: like nikka I don't know how to get there all I have is the address, you drive to places for a fukking living why are you asking me how to get somewhere?

I had a taxi driver lie to me that his credit card machine is not working and he can take me to an ATM. I told him that I can't get cash cause I didn't have my ATM card. Lo and behold, somehow magically, his credit card machine started working. This is not to mention how many times they have not picked me up cause i'm a black man.

I've never rooted so hard for the destruction of an industry.

this post is spot on. Taxi companies know that this uber shyt is gonna crush the buildings and its better in most if not every way. And yeah most if not all taxi drivers are middle aged fob men. Ubers are young people for the most part

somethings gotta be done about the airport shuttles like super shuttle too, hopefully uber or somebody else branches out there. My uncle works there and its hell. The workers are like almost slaves. They pay so many fees its crazy. They pay like 2000 every 2 weeks for insurance, and 1000 a week just to be a super shuttle driver. Its really corrupt. Like theres dispatch people who call and assign the jobs to drivers and they show favoritism all the time.

a great article describing it. But tbh i have no sympathy for them that much, most of the drivers are newly immigrated people who can barely speak english. They made the choice to come here prematurely and now they have a shytty ass job.

Tbh I can't blame them too much. The "American Dream" has been romanticized so much, this is just a consequence. I've read stories of foreigners whoe before coming to America literally believed that the walls were made of money, as in the could reach into a wall and just grab money. That might be an extreme case but the point still stands. Not that I'm blaming America either it's just one of things that's just is

they're so dumb man, like 40+ year old men who have families and shyt come here thinking its gonna solve all their problems when all it does is rewind their life and set them back. Those people are practically starting brand new lives at 40. I wonder what jobs these people would have if it weren't for the transportation industry, i swear that shyt is 90% fobs

lmao DC area taxis are the worst :russ:

cabdrivers in every other major city in the world have an unspoken agreement to not try to rip off residents and only tourists, but not here

My last encounter with a taxi I was trying to go from college park to Laurel. Something like a 20min drive and dude tried to charge me 80 :wtb:. He tried to lower it to 60 and I still hit him with the :wtb:. Then he kicked me out the car. Had to have been because I was on a college campus because I've used a taxi to travel the same distance from Bowie to CP, and had to pay extra for trunk space and didn't pay more than 30. This is the same driver that didn't even know how to get to me and I had to walk to a 7-11 just so he'd know where I was. Also the same driver that only accepted cash [they all do this] and also the same driver that upon entering his vehicle had no idea how to get to my destination with no properly functioning GPS and he had a dash GPS and a smartphone :mindblown:. :mindblown:. The sheer incompetence for something somebody does to put food on their table was astounding. In any other service industry dude wouldn't even be able to work.

I don't understand why people get cabs from airports. Almost every major city I've been to it's the same price or cheaper to get a nice town car to take you to the city center than it is a cab.

My pops drove a cab part time for a long while... he kept the car clean and told passengers "if you throw up in my whip, you're paying and cleaning"

I've seen taxi drivers doubling down... being Uber drivers and taxi drivers :dead:
