My support was more anti-Hillary than pro-Trump, but I agreed with many things he said in a general sense (China does manipulate currency; we are in unfair trade agreements that disadvantage our workers; our infrastructure is crumbling; we did overextend ourselves in too many stupid wars; illegal immigration is a problem; a small, but dangerous group of Muslims do hate us and we need to screen better rather than accept all with open arms from war torn countries; Obamacare is a disaster for many with skyrocketing premiums; I do think we need to take better care of our vets when our defense budget is nearing a trillion a year; I don't think Russia needs to be the bogeyman; etc.) and I'm sick of the same corrupt Washington elite ruling. The way Trump said things overshadowed the general messages that are valid, in my view.
I do disagree with many things he says. I don't care about gay marriage and think it's a waste of time to attack. I think abortion is horrendous, but a terrible necessity in some situations and don't think Roe v Wade should be overturned. I'm not religious, so all religious pandering makes me sick. I do think stop and frisk is a horrible idea. I do think "law and order" and respect for police should be less elevated than equal justice for all. I think the drug war is a colossal waste of time and should be ended. I do think there should be some sensible gun regulations that don't simply make it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns, while changing nothing for criminals.
I've said it a million times here - if Bernie was the candidate, I probably would have overlooked some of his economic policies I didn't like and voted for him.
This was the first year I ever voted Republican since being eligible in 2002. I didn't vote one other office Republican this year and I voted for Obama in 08.
