70's: Kareem (6 MVPs all in the 70s)
80's: Magic (3 MVPs, 5 rings, having more rings than Bird puts him over)
90's: Jordan (6 rings, 6 FMVPs)
00's: Kobe (wanted to put Shaq, but Shaq was only dominant for half the 2000's and you can make an argument that he wasn't all that dominant in 2006 when he won his last ring, Kobe had more sustained dominance with less accolades)
2010 - Present: LeBron James (4 MVPs, 3 FMVPs, leading all statistical categories in the finals this year)

Shaq and Duncan both finished ahead of Kobe in MVP voting literally every year from 99/00-04/05, and Lebron finished ahead of Kobe every year from 04/05-09/10 except 07-08.

If era of dominance is the measure, Shaq/Duncan were the dominant players of the first half of the decade and Lebron was the dominant player of the second half.

If peak is the measure, Duncan, Lebron, and Nash tie for the most MVPs in the decade with two each.

If rings are the end-all for you, then it's either Shaq or Duncan, each with three rings as the leader and best player on the team.

If decade longevity is the decider, Duncan is the only one who made 1st or 2nd team All-NBA every year of the decade. Also All-Defensive every year. Also got MVP votes every year.

There are lots of potential ways to compare for the 2000s...But Duncan shows up in every one of them.
