Nonsense. As long as you buy a high end Windows machine it will last you for many years to come.

This whole narrative that people like to spew is ridiculous to me. Sure a Mac is going to outlast a $300 Acer laptop, but compare it to a Surface Book or any high end ASUS or Lenovo laptop and the whole reliability argument goes out the window. You will likely get killed in specs as well once you go high end with a windows laptop.
