Best (Moderately Priced) Editing Program?

I'm getting a new laptop in the coming months and I need an editing program for videos. I'm a Windows user. I had a decent program but it lacked some of the more creative features. At the minimum I need it to be able to export at 720p. Any suggestions?

Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer. With Avid being the industry standard and Premiere making major inroads since Final Cut X fukked up.

Vegas is child's play. Can't really remember the last time I heard someone mentioning that they cut anything on it worth anything.

If you're going to download something on the low (like I assume you might do from your response) and you're going to learn a NLE. Mind as well be an NLE that will actually benefit you knowing it.

Hell, Adobe fukked up with some licensing and upgrading issues and Adobe Master Collection CS2 is free on their website to download....and they provide a valid key to register it. It's still not a legit copy in the strictest sense but you won't have to apply any cracks or block any ports or any that nonsense. Just punch the key in and use it.

Thanks for the info. That Avid Media is $1000. That's more than I'm trying to spend on the new laptop. I'll probably get that AMCCS 2 but I'm too lazy to make a ID and pass right now.
