Any aspiring artists/authors here? If you could go anywhere in your country to write, where would you go? As an artist and writer, I aim to travel the world and collect experiences and inspiration for my projects.
When I used to be limited to where I could go, I had a Rick Rubiish approach, still do. By reading, watching, studying and observing masterpieces. That can be done anywhere, but there are some works of art that can't just be seen or heard. It also has to be felt, smelled and tasted. The use of all five senses in these experiences requires travel.
For instance, I derive a great source of inspiration from my local beach. Because my beach is more beautiful than beaches I've visited in California, Hawaii and other places it helps filter out all the distracting thoughts I would normally have at other beaches (ex. Damn this sand and water looks dirty etc). Not all masterpieces of art are man-made, hence the importance of nature In consideration of places to go, not just great cities.
Oh yeah speaking of Rick Rubin. Great interview:
