New to this, haven’t played any strategy games since Empire Earth over a decade ago. Any suggestions for someone who wants to get back into it?
FYI: I like somewhat realistic, history based games. I’m not too big on futuristic/space kind of games.

XCom2 is the best turn based tactics game out. A bit different than most of the stuff suggested, its not a 4x game.

Endless Space 2 is probably the best in the genre though right there with the Civilization games. I'm not a big fan of Civ though to be honest - There's also Total War: Three Kingdoms which is incredible.

Depends on how you define a "strategy" game...

Anno 1800 is a city building game that is a strategy game...or a strategy game that is also a city builder game...

Best one to come out in awhile...although it can get overwhelming for new players...

Depends on what you want. If you want 4x, turn based go Civ 5 & 6 or any of the total war games (total war: warhammer is goat but obviously not realistic)

If you want rts try anno 1800 or company of heroes 1 & 2. Rts games aren't being developed as much as they used to though (afaik). Bit of a shame.
