It has nothing to do with Palmer dying, which to me season 5 along with season 1 are the best seasons in the franchise. The problem is they didn't set up the franchise in a way to where it could still succeed after jack Bauer.

They should have set up Tony almeida storyline better to where when jack was captured by the Chinese at the end of season 5, season 6 was about Tony almeida rescuing jack in season 6

I liked Curtis but his character didn't have much personality and I hated how he was killed. I still think Tony almeida was the way to go...he had the personality, charisma, the attitude and the fan connection to be the lead and what better way than to have him save jack from the chinese
