Yeah, mentioned him ages ago.
This must be the thread that got you so many votes in the WOAT poster of the year :russ:. These stans need to realize they can still like his music while admitting his skill level as an emcee is average at his very best.

Lol. It's all good, no need to get upset about opinion's. Kanye isn't the only rapper in the world or in my opinion an elite artist or MC. Not in the top 1000 in terms of skill, not thought about where he'd be in a GOAT list but probably not even top 40.

Same here. It leaves me dumbfounded and astonished when I see his name brought up in them discussions. I was watching the Chris Rock round table discussion a few days ago and he was mentioned a few times there too. There is no way someone could play 10 hot Kanye verses then play 10 hot verses from any the names I've saw in this thread and convince me Kanye is more skilled. I used to be a big fan and ain't even a hater I liked MBDTF but it's just being real and an insult to the many, many more talented rappers out there who deserve a mention over him. The Kanye dikkriding is what makes threads like this necessary :salute:

That's exactly the point. I don't hate Kanye either, would even say I'm a fan of his early work. When he dropped The College Dropout it was a breath of fresh air compared to what was going on mainstream wise at the time for the most part, dope beats, soul, wasn't necessarily a great MC ever but still made good music with that album mostly, a solid 4 mic ish album to me. Even the features were dope, Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, I though Kanye had potential to be a really dope artist.

His 2nd album came out and at first I liked it, listening back not as much nowadays but it still had some classic tracks and was still a good vibe. The 3rd album was a big drop off to me, I was concerned with the direction it as going, a lot of the substance was gone and also probably his worst ever song on it up until that point. And everything after that bar individual songs I didn't like. A few classic songs in the mix cause he is/was talented but to me he never reached his potential. I thought he could potentially be a top 20 artist 1 day despite his flaws.

I genuinely think it's largely the fact he's a big celebrity now people overhype him. He turned into something completely different. Not sure what it was, whether it was his mother's death or what (which I sent condolences to him for and felt really bad about) but he never seemed to be the same after that. And has made some REALLY terrible awful unlistenable trash garbage music.

To me, he has 1 album that stands up today and the rest are songs here and there. What I dislike is people acting like he's hugely better than all other MC's, including artists like 2 Pac, Biggie, KRS-One, even Jay Z etc when really he's not objectively.

There's a lot of artist mainstream and underground that are better than him. The overhyping is way too much and kind of disrespectful to the artists who really did put in their work over many many years and had much better runs in terms of quality music. He can't get into a truly knowledgeable top 10, there's too many great MC's....

He ain't fukking with...

2 Pac
Biggie
KRS-One
Rakim
Nas
Jay Z
Big Pun
Scarface
Guru
Common

And those are just random names off the top, he's not close to an artist like K-Rino, who has a quantity of quality work way above Kanye. If the commercial positions were reversed Kanye would be looked at as a trash corny rapper and K-Rino would be Nas/Rakim/2 Pac etc. Cormega has released better albums than Kanye and been more consistent, Bizzy Bone has a lot of stella work, Raekwon, Z-Ro, Brother Ali, AZ, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, the list goes on. Kanye doesn't even have a better body of work than Fat Joe, so that overhyping like he's the GOAT or even A GOAT is why there's a backlash. Kanye ended up being a disappointment to me, I expected much more from him, but he morphed into something else.

There's infinitely more MC's more skilled on the mic, and that aspect of SKILL will never and should never get taken out from Hip Hop, Hip Hop is an ART form not a fame or clothes contest. And there's many artists that are much better artists and have shown much more artistic skill and proficiency than Kanye. So you have to have a genuine voice opposing that view point, cause Hip Hop needs that. So not even really about dissing Kanye, but more than the other MC's deserve more props and people need to hear more rappers before formulating their lists.

I don't stan anybody, but K-Rino is VASTLY superior to Kanye, that example perfectly illustrates the point of him being overrated, Kanye is looked at as a genius, yet K-Rino an ACTUAL genius as an MC isn't given the respect he deserves on a mainstream level. Of course the real recognize he is a genius MC but the mainstream don't , simply because they don't know about him or are too brainwashed already so too far gone. Kanye was a great producer though if he did do his own beats, in that aspect he is/was excellent.

I can't add anything to this you summed up my thoughts perfectly here. You'll get a lot of negs and posts attacking you for this but not one intelligent rebuttal from a true hip-hop head.
