Not comparing it to Martin when I say this, but you guys are sleeping on Fresh Prince as a comedy. That's one of the reasons why it's a GOAT sitcom.

Those TGIF sitcoms (except for prime Boy Meets World) could never compete with Fresh Prince in terms of jokes. Once they started unlocking the comedic potential of the show, like making Carlton a more well-rounded character, it was over. :wow:

I grew up with Fresh Prince as opposed to Martin tbh. I honestly don't remember ever watching it as a kid but I guess its more to the fact that Fresh Prince had alot more reruns than Martin. So I'm going with Fresh Prince.
Martin was blacklisted for a long time by NBC, after his SNL sketch.

Fresh Prince was a better show.
Martin was a funnier show.

Fresh had more depth

But martin was the bigger show culturally

the answer is Martin

This is how I feel. Fresh Prince was more well rounded...it had some lessons you could apply to real life. It honestly could be, not saying should be, rebooted today and still have the same relevance.

Martin was just flat out funnier. But Martin was a comedian who could just do him and borderline adlib the show. But this is part of the reason why i give the edge to Fresh Prince. I felt like FP was written out, Martin was just putting him in scenario, and letting him do what he does best.

But I would say both were equally relevant. I think Fresh Prince was the first representation of Hip Hop culture on primetime network TV.

It was never watchable to begin with it just had the benefit of being on Friday nights with no other comp.
I agree with this and the person you replied to. Family Matters annoys TF out of me now. Martin is my top sitcom ever man. The lead up to Martin and Gina getting married was goat status to me and when Gina left his ass then the old dude told him “old fools used to be young fools” That was some real shyt. I love Fresh Prince but I bet most people here would say they identify more with Martin than Fresh Prince just judging off what the shows were about. Crazy ass friends, starting out immature dating someone and losing them only to realize you can’t live without them. You clown your friends but when an outsider comes in with the bullshyt, you can put your differences aside and get them fools the fukk out of here. Martin is my pick.

Carlton, Jazz and Tre were crazy ass friends, Will was immature dating everyone until he met Lisa and realized he needed her, He clowned his cousin/friend Carlton/Jazz but stuck up for him when outsiders came at him (the Frat episode with OG Bobby Johnson) and put differences aside.

Too many nights dying of laughter watching martin as a kid. Going to school the next day talmbout, "you see Martin last night?:dead:"

The jodeci episode
Dragonfly Jones
Martin fighting Michael Jackson
Martin fighting that big ass rat on vacation
Martin clowning gina's male friend
Hustleman

Martin was a comedian so damn near everything he said was funny. Fresh prince doesn't compare. Can't recall last time i watched a fresh prince re-run.
