Family Matters was a spinoff of Perfect Strangers

Ok. Never knew about that show. I’m going off what I was told, I guess I was lied to all these years. Come to think of it, Nakitomi Plaza was in Los Angeles and Family Matters was in Chicago- woww. Duhhh on my part- I was a gullible kid. Smh.

Fresh Prince was the better show because it has more depth and it was beyond comedy.
But Martin was the funnier show.

Fresh Prince overall, mostly because I think Fresh Prince had a wider appeal across audiences, age groups, etc...

Martin was dope for what it wanted to do but it doesn't have the depth that Fresh Prince does. Martin was just a funny sitcom while Fresh Prince touched on some real issues.
Oh no question Fresh Prince could attract a wider audience because the concept was easier to understand...an inner city kid from the east coast kid moves in with his 'uppity' "oreo" west coast family and engage in shennanigns where their cultures and lifestyles clash with a lesson on life to wrap it up.

A lot of white people "got it" because they themselves could see themselves as the Banks family to some degree.

Martin is "black funny" (the best kind)...where there are specific cultural nuances that you just "get" as a black person...similar to Red Foxx, Moms Mabley type of comedy.

White people alot of the time see Martin and they just don't "get it"...while black folks are rolling and having damn near a heart attack.

Martin often took things and put them into his shows that are hard to articulate if you're a black person...but it's something that you just understand 110%.

Shyt- I’ve been bamboozled. This is a fake story? I had to look it up. All these years I thought this was real:
“Carl Winslow and Sgt. Al Powell are one in the same, both played by Reginald VelJohnson. Carl used to be a happy man, living in Chicago with his family and working in the police force. One day he shoots a kid (as told to John McLane in Die Hard) that had a toy gun. He resorts to riding a desk, consumed by his grief. Out of sorts with the world, Carl fakes his death, changes his name to Al Powell and moves to LA to restart his life. He marries and starts working again as a police officer. He then regains his sense of worth by saving John and Holly's life at the end of Die Hard.”
Wtf- I hate finding shyt out as fictional or fabricated as an adult that I thought was facts coming up. Fukkkkk

Martin is for people who like that what I call "wacked out" comedy. That Steve Harvey, Cedric "Ahahaaaaaa" type stuff. I could never get into Martin cuz I always felt it was kinda corny. Didn't care for "Shanaynay" and all these different characters. Felt corny and try hard. I don't like when a show/comedian makes me feel like I'm supposed to laugh. Just give me the joke and I'll decide if it's funny or not. I don't care how many wigs and funny faces you make.

Fresh Prince is a show that'll catch you laughing even when it's on in the background and you're not really paying attention just by listening to how everyone is interacting with each other. The thing is EVERYBODY on Fresh Prince was funny. Carlton :jawalrus: , Geoffrey, Hilary, Ashley, Dark Skin Aunt Viv, the Big Guy.. everyone had their moments and it was unintentional humor. Even little Nicky. Mainly just off the rip comments and shade throwing that made the jokes 10x funnier.

Fresh Prince felt like you were a fly on the wall of a funny family household.

Plus Fresh Prince wasn't "just" comedy. They had deep episodes, they had lessons and morals. They had conscious material. It had a little bit of everything.

"Man....shut yo dumb ass up! "
