Dead Presidents is a dope record but it wouldn't even exist without The World Is Yours

When I created a playlist for the Nas vs Jay verzuz, that was an easy matchup

I think they both are dope records, but the way Nas rhymes on The World Is Yours...dude was born to spit

Jay can flow naturally, but the way Nas puts words together is evident on a track like The World Is Yours

Dead Presidents was a single that didn't generate "serious" buzz...The World Is Yours was a classic then and a classic now

World Is Yours is one of those iconic, flawless rap songs with universal appeal. You could play it for a baby or someone who doesn’t know English and they’d still feel it. Jay doesn’t have a song like that anywhere in his catalog besides maybe Empire State of Mind

Empire State of Mind was him chasing a hit and biting off of a Nas concept

I hate when Jay does that sh*t

TWIY by far. This is coming from a Californian. I was young but i remember how my brothers and their friends would play that track and spin illmatic like crazy

dead presidents was a random song that kept coming on the box, most folks was not moved by that shyt, it was lost in the shuffle and didn’t become a track the whole of hip hop fans even thought about until Jay (who was by then a superstar) dropped takeover and went on that campaign to rebrand RD as a classic

I actually didn’t like it at the time but it was everywhere in NY. I was in Times Square one night over the summer and saw a white boy scream the hook in the middle of the street like the shyt was a movie

It's funny you say that about Dead Presidents. It came out and didn't come on a lot.

It thought the beat was slick and the visuals were on some New York dress code shyt (I'm from deep rural Mississippi. The way other areas dressed was next level to me) so I thought it was cool. But the ONLY thing I could remember about the song was the beat and the Nas hook.

Lol, that’s how I remember it on the box. I used to turn when it came on until I turned to the box when it was mid video I saw Biggie and AZ (used to have a crush on him) at the poker table and was like “lemme see who this is that got these guys in his video”. And yea, that’s a classic sample, it has been part of some of my favorite songs - total’s it’s gonna rain and MJB take me as I am
