The US government is considering building its embassy in Jerusalem on Palestinian land that Israel seized after the state was established.

The State Department is continuing implementation of former president Donald Trump’s controversial decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, seeking to build the diplomatic site on land that formerly held the Allenby Barracks on Hebron Road in West Jerusalem. The plot includes private Palestinian and waqf land illegally confiscated by Israel using the 1950 Absentees’ Property Law, the main legal instrument Israel has used to confiscate land and other property belonging to displaced Palestinians.

Israel applied this law retroactively to certain individuals who left their property as of November 29, 1947 (see How Israel Applies the Absentees’ Property Law to Confiscate Palestinian Property), classifying them as “absentees” and seizing their property. The US has been leasing the property from the State of Israel since January 18, 1989, for $1 each year, renewable for 99 years and covering 31,250 square meters (7.7 acres).1

This month, the subcommittee for objections of the Jerusalem District Planning Committee convened to discuss multiple objections to the proposed plan—including one submitted in January by Adalah—The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel. Adalah found, and subsequently published in July 2022, Israeli state archival records proving the land belongs to several Palestinian families. The documents are the official lease agreements between the Palestinian landowners and British Mandate authorities, who rented the property from the landowners before Israel was established in 1948.

The aggrieved landowners in the embassy case include members of the Khalidi, al-Fitiani, El Khalili, Abu Soud, and Qleibo families, among others.
Adalah filed its objection on behalf of 12 of the landowners’ descendants. These include four US citizens, three Jordanian residents, and five residents of occupied East Jerusalem.

Biden self-describes himself a Zionist. He can claim to support a Palestinian state, but his actions don't reflect this. He enables Israel's atrocities, and that speaks louder.

I cannot believe people are STILL falling for this. Both hamas and the Israeli government are UNDEMOCRATIC. The last elections in Gaza happened when 17 year old kids were BORN. Before this attack there were wild protests about what the RIGHT WING Israeli government was doing to claw back democracy. There's an assumption that every Israeli wants Netanyahu and those lunatics in charge to be there forever and that the Palestinians love and support hamas. In both cases neither citizens are given a choice or having their choices respected.

People in the Israeli government have even SAID that they see hamas as something that helps them expand. They are capitalizing on this in the way Bush who knew that Bin Laden had already attacked new York and threatened to do it again would make good on his threat. These people knew what was going to happen, did the math and decided it was worth letting their own citizens die if it meant they could capitalize on the situation to grab territory and make lucrative deals for the private companies pulling the strings.

Who benefits from Gaza being flattened?
Construction companies who will rebuild the houses for Israeli colonists.
Arms manufacturers who get to sell their latest munitions(for a high price) after the old shyt has been depleted in bombing campaigns.
Businesses who can open new branches in the land they will take over.

It's the same shyt with contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan who cashed out and looted those countries and got multibillion dollar contracts. And I don't think anyone who actually cares about knowing the behavior of the people in charge of government thinks for one second that they don't have their own personal money invested. Is it a coincidence that Lockheed Martin has gone up 12% in the last 4 weeks? Is it a coincidence that construction and defense ETFs have jumped? They're literally making money off of dead people. They don't give a fukk and if you use a rational argument they'll respond with IRRATIONAL statements like you're antisemitic or you're Islamophobic. There's no room for logic, reason, or nuance when money is at stake.
