Actually, how many confederate monuments got taken down... how many schools named after racists got changed, because of George Floyd....

I mean the Washington Redskins changed their name because of everything surrounded Floyd's death :manny:

King was part of a movement, so the civil rights act was going to pass eventually. Floyd's death single created change.

There were also world wide protests over what happened to Floyd. The visual of a pigs knee on his neck is more powerful.
yup....george floyd had a bigger worldwide impact because of the internet and social media...

this is undeniable...

the statement was true.... people just mad at the comparison

Do people disagree, or just don't like that he said it?

A bit of both. I will start by saying the thread title is misleading, but I still believe it is like comparing apples and oranges, and that he shouldn't have said it.

The political climate was different in MLK's era and his influence was created throughout his life. His legacy and impact on the world exists outside of his assassination.

If I'm to call, I think George Floyd's death had a greater impact on white people and I do not mean this positively. This shyt has been happening time and time again. Each time it cuts us, they hide behind a lack of evidence, false police reports, the victim smoking a joint, the media portraying our pain as a savage attack on their society.

His murder exposed their dirty laundry for the world to see which has put them in a situation where they have to give an answer. Making matters worse for them is their demonstration of how they reacted to a perceived injustice, the results of a democratic election.

Regardless of all of that. The comparison shouldn't be made. I feel people do that slick shyt with us. Force a comparison to get people inadvertently undermining someone's accomplishments or devaluing the life lost.

thread’s gonna devolve into whether it’s “factual” or not

but it’s not something that needed to be said

and definitely not something that needed to be said by him

ESPECIALLY today.

These nikkas so lost out here.. And they'll take up for Biden just like when he told them nikkas they can't be black and not vote for him..

Someone calling you a c00n on here shouldn't even be offensive to those who see what time it is..

I just thunk we gotta get out of the game of nitpicking every statement this or that person makes. Getting too caught up in emotional nonsense. He was trying to make a point, move on.

Naw. We gonna continue to be fake outraged by a misleading thread title by the MAGA OP.

:leostare: Floyd’s death had nothing to do with the Skins changing their name.

Without further context, it seems like he was discussing how much impact George Floyd's death had.
It's actually difficult to think of many other people who's death has had as much impact globally (at the time he was speaking).

The King assassination riots, also known as the Holy Week Uprising,[2] were a wave of civil disturbance which swept the United States following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968. Many believe them to be the greatest wave of social unrest the United States had experienced since the Civil War.[1] Some of the biggest riots took place in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, and Kansas City.

US: NFL's Washington Redskins to consider name change

American National Football League's (NFL) Washington Redskins announced Friday the team will undergo a "thorough review" of its name after weeks of discussion.

The professional American football team said in a statement that the decision has been taken in the light of recent events around the US and feedback from the community, referring to the protests over death of George Floyd.

"This process allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the National Football League and the local community it is proud to represent on and off the field," said Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins.

The team believes "this review can and will be conducted with the best interest of all in mind."

The announcement came a day after the team's key sponsor FedEx asked it to change the name.

The national debate over racism and demands from Black Lives Matter protestors renewed calls for the franchise to change the "Redskins" name, and sponsors this week started ramping up pressure.

"We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name," FedEx said Thursday.

Floyd, 46, an unarmed black man, died after being pinned down May 25 by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota after reportedly attempting to use a counterfeit $20 bill at a local store.

His last words, "I can't breathe," became a slogan for worldwide anti-racism protests.
