CrIme dropped drastically after the crime bills, which funded police. But those are criticized. :manny: Look below, see what happened after Joe Biden's 94 crime bill.

That's a correlation, not causation.

Because police funding also increased during the years that crime increased.

I get that man, I really do. Again I’m no police lover. My thing is I’ve heard people screaming that we don’t need so much police around and hearing them chanting “who keeps us safe? We keep us safe” Meanwhile you got a toddler being killed at night while he’s sleeping because some fools decided to spray a house up in the middle of a neighborhood at night. You got a little girl just sitting at a bench being a little girl that got killed by some idiots that pulled a drive by. I talk to these families daily bruh and the shyt is frustrating. If we keep us safe, we need to stop that shyt so police don’t even have to be involved. The poly r feels like they need more police because the shyt is out of hand. No they don’t stop the shootings but they don’t feel like they have to as long as they can come in after the shyt happens and “investigate” Defunding the police should start at home right? Am I off base here? Y’all let me know.
Trust me, I've lived in high-crime neighborhoods my entire life (except the short time I lived in NYC), and I'm well aware of the need for greater social cohesion and support.

I know that violence makes people cling to something they feel can provide safety, and that a lot of people believe the police make them safer.

My point is that statistically, the police do not make us "safer" along any metric - and that the clear solution is to increase the social services available to the communities - defunding the police means that the money is reallocated from large weapons buys and into the necessary services a community needs.

the fact that they couldn’t even passed the George Floyd act in the senate . But hey @Born2BKing told me in September there was a good chance the Dems will handle that .

Republican Tim "Gumby" Scott is the reason that bill didn't pass. I made the context you should read larger, so you won't ignore it.

Booker and Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., had been trying to work out a deal with Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., since the House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in March, legislation that lacked enough Republican support to clear the Senate.

“We made it clear from the beginning of our negotiations that a bill must ensure true accountability, transparency, and the policing standards necessary to bring an end to horrific incidents of violence Americans are routinely seeing — like the murder of George Floyd. After months of exhausting every possible pathway to a bipartisan deal, it remains out of reach right now," Booker said in a statement.

Booker called Scott just before noon on Wednesday to tell him the negotiations were over. The call came after a meeting on Tuesday between the trio where Booker and Bass presented a drastically scaled-back proposal, which Scott rejected, according to fours sources familiar with the negotiations.

The proposal included the minimum that Democrats were willing to accept and left out controversial provisions like qualified immunity, the criminalization of excessive use of force and no-knock warrants. The proposal included provisions to address mental health for police officers, a database of police misconduct and terminations, the militarization of police departments and would also make an executive order former Trump signed into law.

Scott rejected the Trump Executive order because he didn’t want the attorney general to have a role in holding police departments accountable, but wanted the standards to be set at state and local levels, one person familiar said and Scott’s office confirmed.

Scott in his statement suggested that Democrats wanted to defund the police. The bill would have added millions of dollars to police departments to help with data collection and mental health resources. But a spokeswoman for Sen. Scott says that “disqualifying departments from grants cuts off a crucial funding stream.”

“Unfortunately, even with this law enforcement support and further compromises we offered, there was still too wide a gulf with our negotiating partners and we faced significant obstacles to securing a bipartisan deal," Booker said.

As an HBCU alum, yea this upsets me. It’s not shocking, though.

I hope in 4 years after his term we do see that the overall wealth numbers of black Americans have improved. If not, this administration has failed. I will vote based on that.

Yup.

theres no point of explaining to folks on here what “ Defund the Police “ means they understand, they’re just using these right wing tactics to bait you in .

And since when has the police ever prevented crime ? And what’s the statistics of the crimes that they actually solve ?

There is a lot of misconception about the term "defund the police" and a lot of folks just think it means they'll have less money, so they'll be less officers, so blacks can feel more protected against police brutality.

Feel more protected is correct. Because when Freddie Gray got murdered by the cops and the cops decided to pretty much not do their job, crime went up quite a bit.

Delivering for the American People and Meeting Urgent Needs in the New Fiscal Year | The White House

In addition, we strongly urge Congress to use the short-term CR to meet our commitments to Afghan allies and partners. The operation to move out of danger and to safety tens of thousands of Afghans at risk, including many who helped us during our two decades in Afghanistan, represents an extraordinary military, diplomatic, security, and humanitarian operation by the U.S. Government. This operation has spanned the globe, beginning with moving evacuees from Afghanistan to third-country transit hubs on military air and charter flights. At transit hubs, evacuees are housed on U.S. bases, where they undergo biometric and biographic security screenings before they are allowed into the United States. In addition to security processing, evacuees receive extensive COVID-19 and other public health precautions and are resettled in the United States with the help of government-funded NGO partners.

We urge Congress to appropriate $6.4 billion to enable the success of this multifaceted, historic mission. The majority of the requested funds are for DOD and State to support processing sites overseas and in the United States and U.S. government transportation for our allies and partners between processing sites and the United States. The funding request also includes support for humanitarian assistance through State and USAID to Afghans at risk in the region and targeted funding to HHS and State to provide Afghans paroled into the United States with public health screenings and vaccinations along with full resettlement resources and a path to enable them to build successful new lives here.

A short-term CR is necessary not only to provide Congress additional time to pass full-year appropriations bills that make bold, forward-looking investments in our future, but also to address the specific, urgent needs facing our country right now. I’m looking forward to continued engagement with members of both parties and on both sides of the Capitol to get the job done

Above the fray.
#Bothsiders are just people who acknowledge that Government and Politicians will never have Black people's back or remove us from oppression

People who aren't #Bothsiders just rather be lied to, because it softens the pain of that reality
No, "bothsiders" was a Republican funded , YTer spoken catchphrase that was used to discourage Black people from voting. Literally "since both sides are the same, why should I vote?"
Smart tactic by Republicans, because they couldn't court the Black vote with actual policy, so discouraging a likely Dem. voter was the next best thing.
