With all of that said, to the average person "defund the police" sounds like nonsense. If you live in a rural area where the average response time for 911 is over 30min, or in a city where most of the time nobody even shows up when you call then you ain't trying to hear that.
Policing in America is totally rotten. The culture is rotten, its infiltrated by white supremacists and military rejects itching for combat. The requirements to be a police officer should be on par with being a nurse or doctor. A police officer should have a background in psychology, social work, and military level discipline and rigid adherence to procedure and a MINIMUM of 4 years of education with continuing professional development requirements and quarterly psychological testing and implicit bias testing. There should be tighter networks with FBI to investigate and discipline police departments.
Killing an unarmed individual on American soil should be a federal crime. An investigation should be triggered immediately and subject to evaluation from a jury. A department that has recieved a minimum amount of complaints should have its public funding reviewed and investigated by a federal body. Enough of this wild west cowboy shyt.
