It’s been nearly five years since we’ve seen a proper solo album from Big Boi, his last offering in late 2012 with the wonderfully eclectic Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. However, the OutKast member did also come through with an experimental collaborative EP with frequent collaborators Phantogram, aptly titled Big Grams, which was released in 2015 (one of our favourite projects of that year) and was followed by a marvellous festival tour (see our review from their New York City show here). Now, it is finally time for this ATLien to come back to earth with what is sure to be yet another exciting new offering.

Earlier this evening, Big Boi announced the completion of his yet-to-be-titled third LP, which is set to be released later this year via Epic Records. The news was revealed via an Instagram video, filmed in the iconic Stankonia Studios:

So far, confirmed collaborations include Gucci Mane, “a stupid jam with Killer Mike and Young Jeezy“, along with additional tracks with Mike, with whom Big hinted at released an EP with in the near future. Furthermore, this will mark Big’s first solo album on Epic Records, marking the first time he and partner-in-rhyme Andre 3000 are on the same record label since 2009, when Big Boi left Jive Records for a deal with Def Jam (Jive later folded, all of its artists being merged to Epic). Given this, along with the fact that Epic is run by L.A. Reid (the man who first signed OutKast in the early 1990s), the chances of an OutKast reunion track appearing on this project are looking better than ever.

I'm excited for this but they need to cut the bullshyt out and drop a 'kast song since they're on the same label. There's no reason not to now. I'm not even saying a full album, that's expecting too much. just drop a song. Any one of the fire Andre verses he spit the last or so could've went towards this Big Boi album.:francis:

He didn't say that it was his solo though. It might be a new OutKast album.

:gucci:

The sentence right before the one you highlighted says he's completed his third LP. It's a Big Boi solo album.

I overheard some music coming from one of his sessions when I visited Stankonia, heard Sleepy Brown on a hook or something.
Wish I able to get in that room, I was right outside the door too :mjcry:

People always name 3k in their top 5/10, and rightfully so, but how many put Big Boi there? Not many.
If you put Big Boi on his own, he's dope as fukk. If you put him next to 3k, he's still dope as fukk buy just gets outshined by 3k. I think that's maybe why Big Boi doesn't get the same sort of accolades.

Edit:
To add to that, it's not like Big Boi is a one trick pony, either. He does experimental shyt as well. The project with Phantogram was one of them. The types of beats he picks (Shutterbug, etc.) varies as well. He's as well rounded as any other great artist/lyricist/MC.

I didn't highlight any sentence. It was already highlighted in the original post.

I'm going by what he said in the video. He said "we" start "our" albums on mlk day. On top of that, he changed his Facebook profile to OutKast so sounds like he's dropping clues. Plus Gucci said something about recording with Outkast but big Boi said no.

Edit. Wrong about epic records.
