Was his last album on Def Jam?

Because what I remember about his deal for Sir Lucious Leftfoot was that it was a one albm deal at Def Jam and the only reason he went to them was because he was waiting ages for Jive to do something and they were fukking with him about him and Dre doing an album and basically LA Reid found him a little loophole deal where he could eat off one album elsewhere

he dropped 2 albums full of songs that could crossover, theres no reason songs like shoes for running shouldnt be tearing up top 40 right now

these dudes release these dope songs but dont shoot videos for them

they just drop albums and go straight on tour

people care more about the visual nowadays...thats how songs go viral..look at chief keef

Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors was a dope ass album, I just think that Def Jam didn't know how to market it, and I don't think a major label would know how to market it for that matter.

the sum and the parts are both great. i dont think kast ever became bigger than the music. the kast name alone doesnt mean automatic sales or the association to kast hasnt meant automatic sales like comparable names. their margin for error commercially just isnt that high in my estimation. idlewild though its not as simple as that, and big boi's two solo releases are an example. im not sure they can get away with releasing just a good album.

at this point big boi's solo career sabotaged by that jive/def jam situation that cost him arguably the two best songs that would have been on that sir lucious leftfoot album. if he could have rode the two songs with andre as singles (yes potential backlash for using outkast singles to push a solo project) i think it would have sold moderately well. the long delays sort of killed that album. i think big boi either needs to just that 10 organized noize tracks album that was the supposed next kast album himself or do something similar to the last album, but take more time with it.

im kinda sick of hearing/seeing the 'he needs dre' posts, and i im a huge outkast fan. big boi put out of the best albums of last year by himself and the last one was great too.

a lot of dinosaur artists like him are too used to major labels to ever leave, even if they're getting fukked over. Independent means more work, worse hotels, more paperwork, etc. That's why dudes like Ghostface keep going back to these bad situations when they could make more money on their own (like Raekwon).

True :ehh:

but in Big Boi's case it might be his best option....

because he tried his hand at being a mogul ...but that PURPLE RIBBON imprint was a major flop...

he didn't know wtf to do with SCAR, JANELL MONET and KILLA MIKE :deadrose:
