I mean at the end of the day if two people are genuinely unhappy you can’t FORCE them to stay together. Their children are grown and seem happy. The separation seems as amicable as can be. If we’re REALLY going by the letter of the law when it comes to Christianity and its rules and traditions then there are wayyyyyyy more urgent and flagrant violations of Christian doctrine than mutual divorce.

I think religion and worrying about what others is really why older people stayed together. In some religions, divorce is not permissible unless a really good reason. Also people cared a lot about what others thought, and the whole “shame” thing that came with divorce. I think honestly more people should get divorces, my parents have married for over 20+ years and truth be told I don’t want a marriage like there’s.
