Ok, so yeah, you are new to plat. I believe you’ll have to apply for the gold card because you can’t product change a cash back card to a rewards card with AmEx. However, by applying, you should be able to get the bonus.

Was well aware of this, I guess you were reading my comments literally as in I would “convert” a card. I meant shut down the blue cash, open up the gold. I might just keep the line open for age but that’s a discussion with Amex at a later date.
I agree though Plat is purely a luxury card but we take at minimum 2 vacations per year so for me it makes all the sense with precheck, clear, and access to them sweet ass centurion lounges.
Every time I passed one up in the airport I was like “one day babe we will be in there instead of eating this shyt ass airport food rubbing elbows with everyone”
Then when I finally get it they change the guest admission policy for complimentary passes

Those are the exact cards I worked thought to get an AMX Platinum card. Except, I had to start with a Credit One Bank card because my credit was trash . It's all good now though

Everyone had to start somewhere breh. I had a secured $500 wellsfargo card and a $500 PayPal card I started out with. I kept my $500 capital 1 card open and it’s maxed at a now $2k limit. It’s sitting in a drawer somewhere

I have had a lot of credit cards. My profile with AMEX is excellent though as they are my favorite lender. So just to quickly note some things....

1st, when people talk about credit they always talk about score. I wont spend much time on this because its already beating a dead horse. you dont get approved by your credit score, you get approved by your PROFILE. I can break down many examples of this. someone could have a high score/thin profile, lower score, thick profile, average score/great AoA, etc....one quick personal reference is, I had something like a 697-720 and my friend had a 770 TU and we both apped for Diners Club card and I got 10k and she got flat denied. (she had a FC on her report) so you can have an FC or BK on your report and damn near have an 800 score. the key is to know what lenders are more lenient towards these things.

Now back to AMEX. the Platinum card is the best credit card I have ever known hands down because it offers the most but TBH, its not hard to get at all. its actually one of the easiest cards to get if you get your foot in the door with AMEX. you can start with any charge card, Green, Pink, whatever....if you run a lot of money through it....then in 6 to 12 months (I dont remember because I did mine in 12) you will see the offer to upgrade and you can jump right to Platinum. likewise with any of their revolvers as well. I started with the Gold and after a year went Platinum and cant live without this thing.

it varies based on your needs but I have a house of 5, so all you need is ONE Platinum card and then everyone else that has their own cards only need the basic co-branded card w/o AF.

the Platinum if used heavily (as I do) gives you wild bennies. Also the MR points can be transferred to other travel cards, for instance Delta/Hilton.

no offense, but anyone worrying about annual fee is broke boy mentality because that annual fee aint shyt compared to how it pays back.

I get enough points in a year to take a 1400 flight as I mentioned above. I cant name all the bennies off top but just a few....

$200 international flight credit
$100 Saks Fifth Ave credit
complimentary Hilton and Marriott Gold status (this is huge because you have to stay 20 nights at Hilton to get to Gold and 25 at Marriott)
there are about 100 offers per month you can ad to your card, some of them shyts equal out to be free....like spend $25 at BP and get $25 statement credit
during COVID, they gave about $25 credit per month towards streaming services from like March - Dec
also same time period gave like $25 or something towards mobile phone bill. also they just got new phone protection plan that covers your phone up to $800 reimbursement...all you have to do is pay your last phone bill on the card.
they now have $240 digital entertainment credit
$200 airline credit
$200 hotel credit
$200 UBER cash
access to Centurion lounges
free virtual concert tickets (just did SZA last month)
access to exclusive parties and events (went to some in Miami)

It’s a straight travel card and that’s the only way you gonna get your $700 worth when you decide to it’s nice free global entry, clear, lounges is drastically changing my experience

That’s what paid for my resort in Mexico. They are handing away free money right now, I was content with my Sapphire and Blue cash card but they upped the point from 75k to 100k to 125k to now 150k. That’s too much money to walk away from.

Been using the hell out of the free uber eats and that vip status on Uber so no bummy ass cars or drivers show up

I would be right there with you guys if I was traveling frequently. Those offers seem awesome.

Cool. After you are approved, whether you choose gold or plat you can request a Platinum or gold additionally at any time without a hard inquiry...they’ll just give it to you. However, you have to choose which card and bonus you really want as once you get that first card and bonus and then later request a different card, you don’t get any bonuses with the new card. Just another bit of info...

Yep, just saw that you could request an additional card. Starting the process of moving over my recurring charges over to the Amex now.

That $240 digital credit I used to get the NYT for free with a student discount since my wife is still in school. I actually like it and it was like $20 for the year with the newspaper option. You said it’s not easy but you just said you spent 2 years working your way up to get it dont gas light these fools. Like you said you have to put in the work to build out that profile before Chase and Amex even start looking your way. They sent me an email only after I got a different Chase card and that introductory offer had me

Yes, it’s a great TRAVEL card but you don’t accumulate points for shyt using it everyday. You only get a 5x multiplier on booked flights...how often does that happen yearly? You only get one point per dollar on all other transactions...the fuk is that?!? Now, if you pair it with a gold card, you’ll have the powerhouse to accumulate AND have the perks, but since the gold “isn’t as exclusive”, folks knock it... you getting 4x points for dining and groceries, which you do weekly...think about how many points that is over a year...

Yes, it’s a great TRAVEL card but you don’t accumulate points for shyt using it everyday. You only get a 5x multiplier on booked flights...how often does that happen yearly? You only get one point per dollar on all other transactions...the fuk is that?!? Now, if you pair it with a gold card, you’ll have the powerhouse to accumulate AND have the perks, but since the gold “isn’t as exclusive”, folks knock it... you getting 4x points for dining and groceries, which you do weekly...think about how many points that is over a year...

I wonder….can you triple dip on uber eats when you order on the app, use the credits, and pick up at the restaurant charging it to your gold card?
I’ve been looking at that Chase holy trinity also but I’m working through Amex for now. Maybe next year though

Check it, I’m using my gold for the dining and I’m seeing on my online statements the 20% discount from my Resy sign up on each restaurant transaction as well as full point credits (4x points/dollar) on the full amount before the 20% credit. So, cash back plus full point credit. Based on this, I believe you’ll be able to combine. I spend at least $100+ most every week at a restaurant so im earning at least 400 points minimum per week just on dining. Doesn’t include my grocery spending or the other misc eating out I’m doing. I can probably pull off 1000 points per week no problem...

everyone is different. for me its my MAIN card, so I dont worry too much about multipliers, though I get plenty my share because I do purchase some flights and rooms on there but I spend $5k or more on there per month, so throw in some multipliers what have you. you do bring up an interesting question though, for AU's you can get free Gold card and I did this for my son. Does the Gold AU card add the bennies of the Gold or is it still a Platinum card in essence with Gold packaging?

Hey, if you want to leave points on the table, so be it..
he gets the same spend benefits (which is shyt) but limited other benefits. You’re better off getting yourself an actual Gold card and giving him an AU card on that...at least you’ll both will earn way more points per transaction...
