Neither was right, the people were soured on him. LLAJF was a very good album, but it probably would have taken some Illmatic level shyt to bring him "back". As in the street favorite producers, not Trackmasters. Trackmasters were for radio friendly boom bap light, and familiar samples kinda like Hit-Boy is now. Us real Kane fans more or less forgave him for putting out a very quality record. "How You Get A Reord Deal" got some traction. It was just over for him going gold and platinum because shyt was different AND he turned off some fans.Hi didn't admit his albums were crap at all. You completely misrepresented what he said.
What he was saying was that he was using an old style of flow on modern beats. He expected using modern beats would be enough to bring him back (Looks Like a Job For was supposed to be a return to form for Kane, bringing it back to pure hip-hop after ODing on R&B with Prince of Darkness). When the modern beats were not enough to get him acclaim, he initially blamed the producers for giving him their second rate material. Later, he acknowledged that his style of flow wasn't matching up with the beats.
what i learned from that Verzuz was Kane discog is not great despite him being an awesome rapper and showman. KRS had better production and his albums stood the test of time better. Even though I prefer Kane stylistically.
Trackmasters were not "on" like that back then, even when they produced How You Get A Record Deal for Kane, They were still working with Chubb Rock and Pudgee Tha Phat b*stard during that period.Neither was right, the people were soured on him. They didn't really blow up until they worked with Biggie.
