Another fantastic Drink Champs ep.

I love when these legends analyze hip hop because it's so enlightening.

The Takeover vs Ether convo was fantastic.

The other thing I loved was when Kane said he didn't really fukk with Nore until Nore's solo debut album, then went back to the War Report. Basically he loved how thugged out but goofy Nore was with Superthug, so even the hardest nikka in the room could cut loose. And I totally agree. I've had this exact debate with posters online who swear that Nore was great on War Report and then quickly became trash for his solos. When in fact, it's almost the other way around. And the more you get into hip hop, the more you realize that a lot of 'real hip hop heads' are pretenders who don't know what the fukk they're talking about. They follow fashion and group think rather than sitting down and analyzing shyt for themselves.

Don't get me wrong - I think Nore's performance on Channel 10 is super ill and unfortunately a side that disappeared once he did his solo shyt, so I partly understand what detractors mean. But on the other hand, Nore getting on his Biz Markie shyt was better for the culture. I first heard Nore when Melvin Flynt came out (I missed War Report and NORE). I remember hearing Oh No for the first time and cracking the fukk up because of how thugged out and fun it was. And then I saw the video and the shyt made even more sense.

It's sort of the same reason I fukk with Lil B and Missy Elliot. I never understood this thing in 'real hip hop' circles where you're automatically wack or not worth talking about because you're not super serious with the lyricism/thugged out. At the end of the day, music is fun. And like Kane said, if you really want to be the hardest muthafukka on the planet you shouldn't even be listening to music because music is relaxation and being free. To add to that, if you're really a hip hop fan, you know that comedy and not taking yourself seriously is an important part of rap. We talk about super serious rappers like Rakim who are rightfully legends and forget that Biz Markie influenced other great rappers like ODB, Busta Rhymes, Noreaga and Redman.

The other interesting comment Kane made was actually bigging up Puff for the shiny suit era. Interesting argument, and I mostly agree. There are a whole group of hip hop fans who just wanna hear hardcore content, which I find kinda weird. All I listen to is gangsta rap, but I'm more into it because of the hard beats, vocals and overall theme of struggle. Not really because of the content. There's a comment online on the Ghostface Child's Play instrumental when some dude was like, "yeah, what Ghost rhymed about on this was cool but I wish he talked only about the crack spot." And I was like :dahell:

Kane left out the funniest part of that piss story :russ: I know why he didn't wanna tell it :mjlol:

Wanted them to ask about this classic :banderas:

what is it?
