For such a small group the Houthis are wreaking havoc in Yemen.

Anyway good riddance to Ali Saleh he is partially responsible for what is happening in Yemen.

Wow a stunning day in Yemen’s history. Jaw literally dropped at the news. Longest running figure in the country’s modern history reaches a stunning and abrupt end. This won’t end well for the country. I don’t see forces that were under his command across the country simply being adopted by Houthis. His son is stil alive and if there is anything that is key to North Yemeni tribal custom it’s to seek revenge. That’s how the Houthis started out to begin with. I’m still stunned at this news, as are most Yemenis and people with roots in the country across the world.

Interesting...I wonder was he lured into a meeting or ratted out?
Apparently he was on the run. He was trying to reach the Saudis backed forces in Marib in the outskirts of Saana. His forces have been fighting the Houthis this past weekend but surprisingly they were getting their asses kicked. One of sons is allegedly captured. shyt is about to get real because his sons will want to avenge their fathers death.

What is the word from Yemen. How were Houthis able to beat Al Saleh's forces easily in Saana? Will the military back his sons or will see the Saleh forces further break apart? Like some join Hadi, others join the Houthis or some carve their own areas of control.

This does not bode well for Saudi Arabia. Yemen will be a resource drain and source of instability at the provinces of Jizan,Najran,Assir in Saudi Arabia. UAE is going tell South Yemen to declare independence like :hubie:. Saudi Arabia will be like :damn:. And Iran in the background will be :troll::ehh::pachaha::skip:

The word is the tribes outside Sanaa, including his own, didn’t come out to fight like he expected them too which allowed the Houthis to overpower him in Sanaa. But his Republican Guard is deployed all over the country not just Sanaa so unless they quickly reconcile with Houthis the fighting will surely intensify. I also just saw a report that his son Ahmed who was on house arrest in the UAE just arrived in Riyadh. Abdelmalik Al Houthi, their leader, just delivered a speech saying they he provoked the fight and that they had to kill him to preserve the alliance and that their fight isn’t against his party. Basically appealing for reconciliation with his remnants. They need his party for political cover or else it’ll be a situation where all the actors in Yemen are united against them. Ali Muhsin also just put out a statement calling for all of the Republican Guard and Saleh allies to join his command( pro Hadi) to unite to fight the Houthis. Finally the Coalition is claiming they’ve just kicked off the largest military operation of their intervention to retake Sanaa. The next few days or maybe even hours will determine what happens next, but I think it’s certain we will see intense fighting across the country.

Murad Alazzany, a Yemeni political analyst and professor at Sanaa University, told Al Jazeera that Saleh's son was the UAE's "trump card".

"The UAE has been keeping ahold of Ahmed should anything happen to his father. In that event, they plan to immediately dispatch him to Yemen to take over his [Saleh's] role," Alazzany said.

"The UAE has always had plans for him. He's a tool, just like how former Afghan President Hamid Karzai was used by the US. When the time is right, they'll use him to do whatever they want."
He is probably in Riyadh and will be the new leader of the Saleh forces. He is likely be the new leader of Yemen. Hadi is done. We will likely see the pro Hadi and Saleh force reunite against the Houthis.

Very likely they will bring him back to Yemen soon to lead Saleh forces, but whats also certain is theres a lot fragmentation ahead. Yemen is in worse shape than Somalia humanitarian wise as it stands, and it will be in even worse shape politically in months ahead. Almost the entire country is at war with each other, with so many different actors that it does your head in: ISIS and AQAP in South, the Southern secession forces, the Hadhramis, the Houthis, the Northern tribes, Salehs forces, Islah and Muhsins allies, Salafis, GCC forces...Im sure Im missing someone too. No chance the country will see anything resembling unity anytime soon. At best we may see some pockets of stability, as is the case in Marib now: As Yemen Crumbles, One Town Is an Island of Relative Calm

What happens to the bulk of his forces? Do they rally around his son? Where is Ali Mohsen al Atmar and where does he fit into all this?

Lay with dogs you will get fleas, all that tap dancing and alliance shifting, shyt will get you clapped

Say what you want about Afash ( his family name which Yemenis called him by), and I was no fan, but he lived an insane life. This puts it well:

I think almost every Yemeni expected him to somehow maneuver his way back to power, so its stunning to think his 9 lives finally came to end.

Ali Muhsin is in Saudi and calling for Salehs people to unite under his command to take back the country. This will be the closest chance for the two sides of the political elite to unite, if ever.
