Freshman Year
Context: Howard and Pau had been crying all game about getting fouled (this is a 20 point game mind you). So Howard got the ball in the post and was getting crowded by Duncan, legal defense. Howard gave a little forearm/elbow to back Duncan up. So Tim Dogg noticed it and waited for Howard to lower the shoulder.
:steviej:

Of course Howard's dumbass lowered the shoulder and tried to bully through Tim Dogg, basically forcing the official to call an offensive foul. The crowd went crazy with Boos and Ddddd---Wight got upset.

Dwight Howard came in the league on the humble Christian tip

Dwight Howard, an 18-year-old high school phenom nicknamed "Choirboy" sees himself as an impact NBA player. Though it usually takes players who go to the NBA out of high school a few years to make an impact, Howard expects to dominate the game like LeBron James and Amare Stoudemire — the last two rookies of the year.

But Howard, the marquee name among a record nine high schoolers who could be drafted Thursday night in New York, also sees himself being an impact player of a different stripe. One who will change the face of the NBA with his Christian values rather than his athletic skills.

"I think my character will stand out," says Howard, a 6-10 forward from Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. "It's not about just basketball. It's about changing people's lives on the court and off the court."

In recent years, some NBA players' names have shown up almost as frequently in police reports as in opponents' scouting reports. Howard will be on a crusade to show fans that players aren't the bad guys and prima donnas some think they are based on some of their contemporaries' behavior.

He vows there will no DUI arrests, drug busts or assault charges for him. Nor will there be a fleet of automobiles and the entourage that has become common among professional athletes.

"I want people to see that NBA players aren't the way everybody sees them," says Howard, the 2004 USA TODAY Player of the Year who averaged 25 points, 18 rebounds, eight blocks and 3.5 assists his senior season. "They think they're just about the money and about the glamour. Most of the time people just see basketball players as superstars; they don't see how they feel. I want people to see NBA guys in a new light."

Howard's game plan is simple. He won't beat people over the head with faith. He says he will let his actions speak. But when the opportunity presents itself, he will talk about his faith.

"A lot of people believe I want to come in and stand on a podium with a Bible and say, 'Here's Jesus. Come get them.' That's not how you get people on your side. That's not how you gain respect. Me, I like to sit back and watch and when it's my time, I do what I have to do."

However, he raised eyebrows when he said he dreamed the cross had been incorporated into the NBA logo, which is a silhouette of Hall of Famer Jerry West.

That was interpreted by some as Howard wanting to change the league's logo.

"Everybody is making a big deal about that," Howard says. "I had vision of a cross on Jerry West's chest. I don't know if it's going to happen. That was my vision so I wrote it down. The Bible says write your vision."

Former San Antonio Spurs center David Robinson, like Howard, is a devout Christian. The two met briefly last year. Howard says Robinson gave him some pointers on what he would be up against living a Christian life as an NBA player.

Howard came away from the conversation encouraged that he will be able to handle NBA life after Robinson told him that when he came into the league he was as firm in his belief as Howard is at this point.

"It took him some falls to get to that level," Howard says. "He told me there are going to be a lot of temptations and a lot of people who will try to pull me down. If I stay true to my belief, I'll be OK."

New York Knicks guard Allan Houston is another NBA player with strong Christian values. He says it's refreshing to see someone as young as Howard with such firm beliefs.

Even though Howard may be subject to some criticism, Houston says he doesn't foresee him encountering major problems.

"Whenever anybody stands up for what they believe is right and it goes against the grain, they are going to seem out of place," Houston says. "But anything he encounters will be extremely minor in comparison to the rewards he'll receive in terms of character and eternal life. He's very passionate about his vision and his purpose. His purpose is to show a Godly character. I think he'll be respected more than people expect."

Ain't none of us perfect and it ain't like his life is over

That's why I don't like players comin' out as so staunchly spiritual before they go through anything

But, dude fall from the public grace is crazier than Lebron's

Just saying, dude was extra spiritual coming into the league and said the money and fame won't change him. You haven't heard him utter 1 Christian reference in years. And add that to the vulgar language and the multiple baby mama's and it's safe to say the money and fame turned him into a totally different person.
