Joining in the bits I grasp of biology and metaphysics...

I'm very interested in GMOs and the subject of consciously guiding our bodies evolution in certain directions. The conscious mind alone is nothing to play with, placebos effectiveness prove that.

Used to be on board with the "leave the food alone" people but I realize a lot of the food we eat today wouldn't even exist in this day and age without nature or us meddling in...

Metaphysics: "The branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space."

The very process of thinking metaphysically begins scientific questioning.

just remember some folks think the sun revolves around us and that the earth is flat
Exactly my point. And here comes the clown show, laughing simply because I used the word metaphysics.

Dudes like @Serious would've been the main culprits trying to hang people who said the world wasn't flat.

The coli "Higher Learning" huh?

I mean does anyone remember seeing that john oliver spot on sugar and all the 'studies' done to say sugar was/is good in its current amounts? And that they were paid for by the sugar industry??

That's the shyt i'm talking about. One study comes out independently funded that says global warming is caused by humans. Then interests who don't want that to be true fund and pay for their own studies to say the opposite.

Sucks that I gotta do my googles to see if a study was peer reviewed and independently funded.

Problem is most of the studies you hear about in the media are ones that draw these ridiculous conclusions. Those are often poor studies that are funded by people with their own interests in mind.

Good studies done without commercial influence are are published everyday, b.

If you don't understand scientific methodology, you should leave it to actual scientists to interpret them.

The general public is RETARDED. I'm not even on some arrogant tip. I know jack shyt about finance. So I hire a financial advisor. I know jack shyt about fixing my car...so I trust the mechanic/dealer. If I disagree on a quote, I hop online and do my own research and educate myself on the topic enough to have a PROPER discourse. Etc.

With science, everyone is suddenly an expert and knows what's best for them, based on scare tactics and half assed news reports. Its disturbing. Most these people never research anything, but say they heard that vaccines can give their piece of shyt child autism :scust::why:

By the way...most of us have never seen a non-GMO food in our lives. Think about that for a second.
I hate to admit it and perhaps as a father I shouldn't foster these ideas in the minds of my children as it can create sense of arrogance but I tell my kids all the damn time that the majority of people are just dumber than shyt.

I try to balance it with teaching them to be humble and understanding but when they have access to youtube, america's funniest home videos and shows like "World's Dumbest" and or the Carbanaro Effect there's only so much magic weaving I can do to NOT make people look like idiots....

You fukin retards help me help you got damn it.

One of my friends from college was a dietician. I dont know if you would consider him a scientist... but he knew a great deal about GMOs. I used to bother him about GMOs all the time.
I learned that basically GMOs are incredibly dangerous, but not really from eating them.
The ppl eating them will be fine.
The bigger, more complex promblem occurs when one of a number of things happen. One... they irreversably intergrate into the natural system we already have and change it. For example, we no longer have natural banannas. We made them genetically extinct by accident. The litle black things in the middle are underdeveloped seeds. But because of us making them 'seedless' and the seedless ones crossbreeding, now we have to plant banannas because if we dont they cant reproduce on their own. Soon as we stop, they are extinct.
Another problem is that because the GMOs are not natural but instead created, the person creating them can copyright them.
The crops are intentionally breed to be dominant, so if they accidently come across natural crops the offspring is the copyrighted GMO.
So companies like Monsanto can airdrop seeds into the atmosphere in other countries (and they do) and come back in 6 months, test the crops, then sue the indegenous farmers and take their farms.
(Look up farmer suicides.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmers'_suicides_in_India#GM_crops
Over 10,000 farmers killed themselves since 2005 just in India.
Its not some small thing.

There are other problems as well... but yeah. GMOs are a real problem AND they are mostly safe to eat. Most people think its one or the other... but its not.

I have no problem with us talking about the repercussions of GMOs on local populations and their environmental impact. These are good points. I have a problem when people think they are somehow unsafe to eat.
