As far as the Poor & Dangerous album... it was dope but it wasn't a knockout. I know that now some people consider it a classic, but it was really just a good album for its time... no different than how Fat Joe's album that year was good, Mic Geronimo's album was good, Smoothe Da Hustler's album was good... there was nothing on it that REALLY solidified L, it was just a tight performance across the board. The producers brought good beats (for the most part) and L was lyrically nice of course (even though he rapped the same way on almost every song). It wasn't one of those standout must-have, must-hear joints. It was one in a long line of good albums that came out. I wouldn't scoff at someone if it was a personal classic to them, but I see why it's not considered widely as an all-time classic.
