As requested, breh @Big Lysol

Idgaf what some hook nose cac Jew at the source magazine has to say. Most of those albums is ass. Only a few NY nikkas deserve the accolades that they receive. Most of that music is bunk.

The 80s and very early 90s is legendary I judge that with more respect but 93-98 a lot of that boom bap shyt Nah.

I got 3 90s hip Hop playlists on my phone.

90s South playlist: 387 tracks
90s west coast: 257 tracks
90s east coast: 162 tracks

nikkas don't measure up and I can't listen to music with your ears dog.

you know what breh... this is a great opportunity to see these playlists. at least some of them. Maybe you know something I don't.

What are your best songs on that 90s South playlist? I don't need pictures. Just artists and song names.

make a "drop a gem on em" thread and I'll lace you.

:salute:

For starters though who is some 90s southern rappers that you do fukk wit so I'll know where yo head at.

some UGK, some 3-6 Mafia, some Scarface, some Outkast, Ludacris, some Project Pat, tiny bit of Pastor Troy, etc.

I like a little of everything. I fukk with the chopped and screwed sound. When it's done right it sounds incredible. Feel free to add in some great 2000s Southern tracks with that Memphis bounce and/or Screw vibe.

Thanks brehs! I appreciate the music sharing :salute:

I listened to all of these songs. The Swishahouse Kappa freestyle, Kane & Abel and Phunky town joints are listenable. But it's clear that none of them are remotely as good as East Coast stuff at that time. I would dismiss these songs as wack if I were in NY at that time. And to be honest, they sound forgettable as fukk to me in 2018. What's funny is that listening to this and comparing it to Geto Boys and Kast, the quality difference is huge. And those groups were accepted in NY. So I don't see the issue. I'm sure some cats in NY were greedy and hating but I don't think it was as bad and widespread as y'all claim to be. It's not like y'all were dropping classics by the boatload and NY just ignored them shyts. Whatever y'all dropped that was actually good, NY seemed to be embrace it. Am I right? @Newportbox

I think the argument for South quality on par with NY quality is more believable when the 2000s hit. particularly in the mid 2000s.

To me, these tracks shyt on everything y'all posted:

All foreigners gravitate towards east coast hip Hop because that was the default sound of rap music when y'all were introduced to it. That and the fact that you aren't from America or any region and have no home sound so of course you'll gravitate towards whatever was the most popular when you were introduced to the culture.

Actually I first heard hip hop when the West Coast was reigning (early 90s), and Pac was my favorite rapper at one point. But as I got into my teens, I started seeing why East Coast rap was simply better. Better beats, better rhymes. :yeshrug: I can't say I was knowledgeable about The South but I always liked Timbaland's production (which is South-ish) and I was a fan of No Limit in real time.

I get your point though and it's true for most people. I gravitated to East Coast stuff after a while because it's more cosmopolitan, eclectic and edgier. And I lived abroad so I've been around eclectic shyt my whole life. My problem with other coasts was they weren't as edgy and eclectic with their sampling choices.

You from Canada right?:jbhmm:

2 way freak and the backwuds? No, post some east coast shyt that you think is hot.

from what era? mainstream or 'underground' rappers? Any specific rappers/producers you like? Kinda like I mentioned specific rappers I liked in the South and you suggested tracks around that sound.

Yes east coast and mainstream west were the biggest stone you saw before 2000's crunk & Outkast so most people began there. And they stopped there thinking they know hip hop.
But there's some exceptions here and there. Some people can't stop digging and appreciate finally all sort of regional rap.
Others don't stop at the first big stone and began rap culture with other stuff.

The op seems to appreciate a little more but he is so fast to dismiss talk with some "the song I like shyt on the song you love".
Like it's a NBA players power ranking.

Anyway, some songs from the south I can't stop playin :
Ace Deuce - Theze Dayz
4 Deep - Doin' Bad Goin'Bad
BG - Plan Went Sour
ESG - Smoke On
Fat Pat - 5x & Why They Hatin Us
Juvenile - Take Them 5
Lil Keke - If You Wanna
Playa Fly - Catch You Slippin
Starlito - Keep The Change & Leadership
Trinity Garden Cartel - Judge Me By 12
Guerrilla Maab - Not My Home
Dat Boy Grace - Cracks to Dats
Sauce Walka - Black on Black Crime
Devin The Dude - Cutcha'Up
Mr Pookie - Smoke One

I fukk wit Mobb, Wu, CNN, Sauce Money, Royal Flush, O.C., Tragedy Khadafi, no need to even mention Jay and Nas. I actually listen to east coast shyt, that's how I know most of they material is ass once you leave past the tri state and DMV ain't nobody bumping that shyt like y'all think. nikkas can rap but most of the beats is ass, esp towards the late 90s when nikkas started sampling classical music real heavy.

I listen to all kinds of east coast shyt.

Might throw some more south shyt your way.

I always say if the only thing you know about Hip Hop is some east coast shyt then you don't know shyt about Hip Hop.

That's another thing there is no right or wrong when it comes to music. You either like it or you don't. Do you prefer apple juice or orange juice. It's a preference no right or wrong.
