I liked the song from the start.

It was released as the fifth single off S. Carter, if it was that great it should have been the first or second.
So u liked that shyt before the video came out????
Bun b has said that for years on multiple outlets, the first time you heard it was on the combat jack show?I remember on the Combat Jack show Bun B said he had to really convince Pimp C to do the song because Pimp C wasn't really into doing any mainstream songs. He didn't give a fukk about no Jay-Z or the song itself lmao.
You could argue it was the 2nd single. Despite "Jigga My nikka" & "Girl's Best Friend" being listed as the first 2 singles on Wikipedia, "Jigga My nikka" was actually released as single off of
the Ruff Ryders compilation album Ryde or Die Vol. 1. "Girl's Best Friend" was released as single off the "Blue Steak" soundtrack. In fact both of those tracks are hidden tracks on the the Vol. 3 album.
"Things That U Do" which is listed as the 4th single looks like it ended up being pulled as single because It wasn't heavily promoted, released as a CD single, or had a music video shot for it.
Wikipedia doesn't even list "Anything" as a single even though there's a music video for it:
&
a CD single was released for it:

What does that have to do with the song being trash and then being transformed into one of his biggest hitsdid you forget that he was coming off a 4x plat album and a grammy win for vol 2???
I don't know....I was heavy into DMX then and I just thought that shyt wasn't gully enough and just overall corny...and I think it had something to do with the placement on the album I didn't like that it came after Watch Me it just didn't sound right...and I thought it was weird that he grabbed Juvenile and UGK for features when I was on some "fukk anything that come from the south" shytHonestly, I'd question anyone who didn't like that song before the video came out. That Arabic-sounding beat is fukking bananas! I still think it's one of Timbaland's top 10 all-time beats.
I thought I was in ancient Egypt surrounded by hoes or something. Same year The Mummy came out right? How could you NOT like that song at first listen?
Good point...but "Anything" wasn't on that album, for some odd reason it was put on Beanie Sigel's first album![]()

Learn something new everydayIt was on the UK/Europe version of the album. It was supposed to be also on the U.S.edition of the album but due to heavy bootlegging of the promotional copy, Jay-Z went back and changed the US track listing at the eleventh hour.
fukk outta here his first number one song was Empire State of Mindnobody was forcing anything when it came to jay back then, he was hot and everything he touched was a hit.
